July 2016 Newsletter

Never judge a feeling as 'negative'.
Simply feel it.
Let its energy move in your body.

Breathe into discomfort,
oxygenate sadness,
saturate anger with presence,
drench fear with tender curiosity.

You'll find no 'negativity';
only a precious part of you
longing for acceptance.

- Jeff Foster

NO SUCH THING AS A LOW VIBRATION...

If you are feeling sad today, or fear is moving in you, or uncertainty, or even shame, you are not in a 'low vibration' (despite what your self-help guru may tell you).  You are not sick or broken or unenlightened or far from healing (despite what your therapist may tell you). You are not 'trapped in your ego' or stuck in the 'separate self' (despite what your spiritual teacher may tell you). You are not being negative, and you don't need to be fixed (despite what your own mind may tell you).

Friend, please know that your feeling is not a mistake, because it's LIFE moving in you, and life can't be a mistake, ever.

You are just feeling what you are feeling, that's all.  It's a feeling state playing out on the vibrantly alive movie screen of presence, that's all.

It's a manifestation of presence, a child of presence, an expression of presence and a call to presence, that's all.

It's not a problem that requires a solution or a band-aid. It's a sacred and precious part of you.

You've been blessed by a feeling today; you've been chosen as its home; don't run away from such a truly precious gift.

With love from yourself, as always,
Jeff xxx

NEW BOOK NOW AVAILABLE TO PRE-ORDER!

We are so happy to announce that Jeff's new book THE WAY OF REST: THE COURAGE TO HOLD EVERYTHING IN LOVE is now available for pre-ordering at Amazon (or any good bookshop!)
"The Way of Rest reads like a long poem to waking up in life as it is. For free spirits and those interested in 'the pathless path,' this book will be a great companion and friendly guide." -Sharon Salzberg, author of Lovingkindness
THE WAY OF REST is about rediscovering that you are perfect even in your imperfection, and that your pain, confusion, and exhaustion are saturated with intelligence and sacredness. Through prose and poetry, the book guides you in cultivating vulnerability, finding peace of mind, and celebrating the majesty of the moment...

NEW WRITING by Jeff

Jeff's new writing regularly appears on his Facebook page:

UNBREAKABLE

You do not heal from trauma, and nobody heals you either. You simply reconnect with that sacred place in yourself that was never traumatised, never broken, never damaged in the first place; your true Self, absolute and ever-present, innocent and free.

It is not a destination; it is You, alive and awake in the moment.

Know yourself as the Absolute, and let all thoughts and feelings move through you, however intense or uncomfortable. The forms pass, they always pass, and You remain.

You are not broken; you are Unbreakable.

A PRAYER FOR THE OVERWHELMED

Oh, sweetheart.
Life is overwhelming for you at times, l know.
Don't listen to the ones who call you over-sensitive or too weak for this world.
Your sensitivity is exquisitely beautiful!
But you must learn to stay close to yourself.
You must learn to breathe.
To invite curious attention deep into your body.

Allow yourself to feel overwhelmed,
and you won't be overwhelmed, I promise.
It's just a feeling.
A precious part of you longing for love.
It will pass when it's ready.
Let it stay awhile.

Don't pretend to be strong, the one who has it all 'figured out'.
There will be time for answers soon enough.
Now, simply give 'the overwhelmed one' safe passage in your heart.
Drench the feeling of overwhelm with gentle attention; bathe it in overwhelming love.

It's okay to feel overwhelmed sometimes, it really is.
Even the strongest feel overwhelmed, for their strength lies in their vulnerability.

Your sensitive nervous system is perfect, and l love you for it.

And it's all okay, here.
It's really okay, here in the arms
of the present moment.

AND BEFORE THE STARS WERE BORN

The greatest gift you can offer anyone
is their complete freedom.
Freedom to love, to laugh, to cry,
to feel scared, angry, insecure,
full of doubt or full of joy.
To hold them in that safe and sacred space.

You don't exist to make anyone else happy.
But you can be present.
Present to their unhappiness, their excitement.
Present to the life that moves in them.

And you can invite them to a deeper Happiness.
The Happiness of Being itself.
The Happiness that holds them
exactly as they are.

The way you hold them now.

The way the ground holds the flowers, the trees, the great mountain ranges.

The way you were held as a little one.

And before the stars were born.

WHEN LOVE CRACKS YOU OPEN

Love does not always feel safe because love is pure potential and pure presence and in pure presence every feeling and impulse is welcome, however gentle, however painful, however inconvenient, however fierce.

So when you let someone matter to you and you let yourself matter to someone and you are not ruled by fear your heart will have no choice but to crack to the hugeness of love and you will not be able to control the results and that's why the ego cannot love.

Safe, unsafe. Happy, sad. Certain, uncertain. Afraid, fearless. Fragile, powerful. Worthy, worthless, and everything in between. There is so much life now trying to fill you up, and you can barely contain it all. You are full of life, penetrated by life, pregnant with life.

They lied to you about love, you see, they said it was always supposed to feel good and warm and happy, they said it was something you'd be given, something you'd have to earn, or deserve, they said it was all butterflies and angels and light, but really it was always you, naked, raw and alive, cracked, whole, vulnerable, shaky but real, inhaling a cosmos, exhaling euphoria and the darkness and the grief and the joy of humanity and sometimes not knowing what the hell you're doing or how you're still alive.

Good. Breathe. All is unfolding beautifully, here. Love is not only gain, it is also loss. The beloveds will die and the loved ones will vanish, but love will not. She will simply make you rise, you see, and fall again, and wonder again if you will ever rise. She will open you and close you and break you and humble you and laugh at your childhood fantasies of love.

But it is all natural, and it is all for you. You will come full circle before long, back to yourself, the Origin. You were only ever seeking your own Heart, and its multitude of reflections.

Love is here. Love is always here. Somewhere between the euphoria and the darkness she found you. And the very ground you stand on is blessed, and you are safe once more.

So cry, laugh, shake, vomit, doubt the ground; you will never be abandoned by the Heart.

PERMISSION TO BE... AVERAGE

It's okay to be average! To do your best and know that it's good enough. To fail. To try and fall flat on your face. To be imperfect. To be adequate, unspecial, and not the greatest.

In all cases, you are loveable, and miraculous as you are. Your human limitations and imperfections are beautiful and perfect in the eyes of the Universe. Take the pressure off yourself to be the biggest and the best, the most successful and the most loved, and bless yourself for being exactly what you are.

Realise that this radical self-love has nothing to do with 'giving up' or 'settling for less'; it's actually the basis of a joyful, liberated and abundant life.

Be average, and dance into the miracle.

"From time to time, a new voice comes onto the scene - unfortunately for all of us not often enough - with something that is utterly alive, emerging out of the unknown, opening a portal into the ever deepening mysteries of love. Jeff Foster is one of these voices....  I whole-heartedly recommend this lovely new book of poetry and prose..."

- Matt Licata Ph.D., from the Foreword

" If you have had enough of the usual spiritual claptrap coming through as
"nonduality" and are ready for honest and brutal truth; that truth which will at first piss you off, yet will in fact set you free, this book is for you. It's beauty is in its gorgeous yet utterly radical expression... Highly recommended."
