MYC Fundraiser Thank you's!

The Milford Youth Center staff and Commission would like to thank everyone who attended, donated, supported, and volunteered to make the fifth annual St. Pat's Fundraiser successful!

The night included a dinner by Oliva's, raffle prizes/silent auction, music by DJ Ron Auger, and a cash bar. We also announced our 2014 Community and Individual Appreciation Awards. Tom Murray of Teacher's Driving Academy accepted the Community Appreciation Award. Tom and TDA decided a few years ago that they would allow every $70 registration fee for their driver's school to be made as a donation to the Center. For the 2013 year alone, TDA donated over $19,000 to the Center, proving to be the second largest annual donor to the Center, outside the United Way of Tri-County. The Individual Appreciation Award was presented to Selectman Brian Murray. About a year and half ago, we were sitting at the Center, preparing our Capital Improvement plan. As we were going through everything that the Center needed, to be safe and accessible, we quickly realized that the entire building needed to be done, and that this project would turn from a capital improvements to an entire renovation. Being unfamiliar with what to do next, Brian Murray quickly stepped up to take a look at the building and get the Town Building inspector over and realized too that there was no doubt that the building needed to be done over correctly. Over a year later, we have formed a Renovation Committee and was approved by Town Meeting for the funds for architectural work. We will be going to Town Meeting in May and understand that this process and progress would not have been possible without Brian, who was has been there every step of the way!

We would like to especially thank: Our after School volunteers (Christine Daddario, John Delude, Nancy Milani, Alison Julian, Eldon Dunbar, Peggy Berube, Jenny Gonzalez, Rob Kidder, Coach Bri, Warren Hubbard); Raffle Prizes from Hayes Photography, Inside Corner, Bolios Sporting Goods, Teacher's Driving Academy (TDA), Glen Ellen Country Club of Millis, Truffles Grille & Wine Bar, Burlington Coat Factory, Rivera Athletic Center, Midtown Family Fitness & Racquetball Club, Wanokura, Mark Berman (Bike), Karla De Jesus (Tupperware), Curry Audio & Video, Keene Limo of Hopedale, Oliva's Gourmet Gifts; And our event volunteers (Courtney Pitcher, Junior Walsh, Paul Seaver Jr.).

We would like to thank all those who made donations: JP Liquors, Dogfish Brewery, B & J Electric, Imperial Ford Corporation, Waters Corporation, Laura Kidman, Melissa Moylan, Shawn Smith, The Milford National Bank and Trust Company, Milford Federal Savings & Loan Association, Pizza Palace, Area Glass Co., Worldband, Gene's Variety, and KBK Sports. We would like to thank WMRC, the Town Crier, and the Milford Daily News for helping us with getting the word out about our event!

Please join us at our FREE 2nd Annual Networking Breakfast scheduled on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from 8:30-11:30am at the Doubletree Hotel in Milford! The goal of this breakfast is to take the next step in identifying and utilizing existing in new resources in our community.

The Juvenile Advocacy Group (JAG) has continued to work, for the past seven years, to bring together mental health providers, police, juvenile courts, schools, churches, medical providers and hospitals to address youth mental health and substance abuse in Greater Milford. Last year, the JAG networked with over 100 providers at our 1st Networking Breakfast to address the challenges of youth mental health. Again, we are joining our effort again with Milford Regional Medical Center's Patient Family Advocacy Committee's (PFAC) Mental Health Subcommittee, The Adolescent and Youth Adult Health Center, Interface, Wayside Youth & Family Support Network, CHNA 6, and Yourteen.org to collectively explore existing and new resources for clients and families we all serve.

If you plan to attend, please RSVP at www.jagnetwork.org by THIS FRIDAY, April 4th! Feel free to pass this onto others you feel would benefit from our event. We look forward to meeting all of you and working together to make Greater Milford a place where young people and their families can find needed mental health services and treatment.

Relay for Life Team!

The JAG Youth Council and Milford Youth Center has signed up to participate in the Relay for Life of Greater Milford for the second year in a row!

The JAG Youth Council decided that they wanted to participate in Milford's Relay for Life on May 9th to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much. Relay teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around the high school. Relay events are up to 24 hours in length and, because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times. To donate to the MYC & JAG team, click here. Juvenile Advocacy Group (JAG) mission is to work with its community partners to bring resources together to prevent substance abuse and address other emerging needs in the community. The Massachusetts communities included in JAG's service area are the towns of Milford, Bellingham and Hopedale. Through JAG's programs and services youth and their families are able to gain the information and resources to help live and lead healthier lives.  For more information, click here.

Milford Youth Center (MYC) mission is to provide a safe environment that promotes self esteem, builds character, and fosters the notion of community and the importance of respecting and serving others. For more information, click here.

The MYC & JAG work together to provide resources and opportunities for youth to make healthy decisions. The MYC & JAG have worked to provide local youth with the necessary activities and events that help them develop physically, mentally, socially and emotionally through their childhood years. By providing Milford youth with these types of programs and a safe environment during the after school hours and during our monthly events, we hope to address adolescent risk factors as well as promoting the partnership among community members to ensure a comprehensive vision and plan for the health of the youth in the town of Milford.
