MYC After School Program - December 2018!

December has some great programs in store to keep all of our members warm and active! We will continue with the boxing program which is proving to be a popular choice and adding soccer and yoga! We will also be offering a great new program on Tuesdays and Thursdays called "Lights, Camera, Action!" where kids will be able to explore the art of skit writing, filming and acting with Karen Kelly! We will continue homework help, quiet zone, youth council, crafts, nutrition and Alateen! Please note that we will not be open for kids on Christmas Eve or Day and New Years Eve or Day. We will be open December 26-28 from 12-3 PM for open gym! Check out the full calendar for program offerings  here !

The Milford Youth Center has become the focal point for the children of Milford. It hosts many different activities and events throughout the year for the youth of Milford and/or the Milford Schools. The Milford Youth Center's after school program is open for youth ages 8-18, free of charge, from 2-6 pm, Monday through Friday (check monthly calendar, website and social media for any changes due to weather, holidays or vacation weeks).  All Youth members must be picked up by time of closing (unless they walk home).  Pick up is outside of the building on 24 Pearl St. Please visit our  website  for both our  weather policy  and  traffic control plan

All participants must fill out a  registration form annually to be a member. Once this form is completed and returned to the Center, the member will be provided with a key tag and ID number. (if they are new members to the program). This will be how the Youth Center staff will track attendance. Therefore, all members are required to bring in their key tag in order to enter the facility. If key tag is lost, the Center will charge $1.00 for replacement.

The game room, lounge and gymnasium will be offered daily. There will be structured programs that participants must sign up for to participate in. Members are also able to use our washer and dryer, free of charge during operation hours. The Center also offers a free snack and dinner program, due to the collaboration of CACFP, Hockomock Area YMCA and the Milford School Food & Nutrition Services department.

Volunteers are always welcome to assist with the after-school program or during the morning hours! We are always looking for help during the after school hours, 2-6 PM. You may also run a program/activity during the after-school program. We also need volunteers for our monthly evening events. Please  contact us  here if you would like to volunteer.

125 Served at MYC Thanksgiving Dinner!

On behalf of the Milford Youth Center staff, we would like to express how grateful we are for all the companies, families and individuals who made our Thanksgiving meal for the kids a huge success! We were able to serve over 125 kids with a nice, hot meal as well as donate leftovers to the Milford Fire Department and local families in need.  The Milford Fire Department allowed us to use their oven to keep food warm before we served it and with the help of D'Angelo Restaurant, who donated 24 loaves of French bread. We also are thankful for a Greater Worcester Community Foundation grant that allowed us to buy hot and cold serving carts, so that we could be sure to serve foods at the right temperature and without having to run back and forth to ovens!

We would like to thank our local community businesses: Pizza Chef, Oliva's Market, Catering & Gourmet Gifts, Gene's Variety, Red Heat Tavern, Purchase Street Market,  Cantinho Goiano and Casa Brasil for each donating a side dish for our meal. Thank you to the Price Chopper, Big Y and Stop and Shop for the monetary donations to allow us to get supplies we needed to serve the meal; for each family of our MYC Youth council member that donated a dish (Mila Lima, Brenda Anger, Nicole Landry, Sarah Soares, Stephanie Freeman, Julie Cahill, The McBride family, Jessica Santos, and Patricia Fernandes); to our board members who volunteered and/or donated a plate: Amy Tamagni, Lisa White, Sandra Caproni, Susan Salamone, Brenda Wheelock, Darlene Dulude, and Ron Taylor;  to the volunteers who helped serve and/or donated a plate: Jessica Friswell of the United Way of Tri-County, John Dulude, Kim Wach, Courtney Walsh, Ginny Bliss, the Abrantes family, The Schiavi/ St. Laurent Family, Donna Arthur and ERA Key Realty Services of Milford for eight great volunteers, Molly Dillon, Joanne Dillon from Milford Town Hall, Karen Kelly, Kerry McLaughlin, Melanie Burns, Roxanne Lynch and Tori Williams for taking photos for us.

Thank you also to Milford Town Crier for taking the time to interview and do a write up on our event. Finally thank you to all the staff members who made and/or donated a dish as well! Milford Youth Center (MYC) mission  is to provide a safe environment that promotes self esteem, builds character, and fosters the notion of community and the importance of respecting and serving others. For more information, click here .

The  MYC  works together with other community organizations to provide resources and opportunities for youth to make healthy decisions. The MYC works to provide local youth with the necessary activities and events that help them develop physically, mentally, socially and emotionally through their childhood years. By providing Milford youth with these types of programs and a safe environment during the after school hours and during our monthly events, we hope to address adolescent risk factors as well as promoting the partnership among community members to ensure a comprehensive vision and plan for the health of the youth in the town of Milford.
