All proceeds of the event go towards the free physical fitness and educational programs of the Center. Fundraisers like this, help staff continue to work towards our mission, which is to provide a safe environment that promotes self-esteem, builds character, and fosters the notion of community and the importance of respecting and serving others. By providing Milford youth with programs and a safe environment during the after-school hours and during our monthly events, we hope to address adolescent risk factors as well as promote the partnership among community members to ensure a comprehensive vision and plan for the health of the youth in the town of Milford. We have now been in our renovated facility for almost two years and have seen the attendance, programs and events flourish! We have over 500 registered After School members for this school year alone, and the number continues to grow each day.  We see hundreds more throughout the week through our additional programs and rentals.

If you need additional information, please call the Center at 508-473-1756. Thank you in advance for your contribution.
After School Program - February 2018!

For the month of February, we will continue our most popular scheduled programs: crafts, computer lab, IMPROV, Zumba, youth council, batting cages, nutrition and science club. We are happy to announce that CrossFit will be back again on the 26th as well as indoor model plane flying on the 9th. Some new additions to the programs this month are creative creations which will be a spinoff of sewing where projects will include anything from sewing to crafting. Also, starting this Thursday 2/1 from 3:30-5 we will hold a program called PhotoVoice. This will be an 8-week class with a show (Artist's Reception) on 3/22. PhotoVoice is a unique blend of advocacy, research, self-discovery and photojournalism. It is a grassroots method involving the use of photography for social change. Groups of people that are rarely heard from are allowed to record their lives though their own eyes and use this information to promote positive change in their lives and communities.  The first hour of this class we discuss photos that have told a story or any photos taken by participants, and for the last half we eat pizza. For the Artist's Reception, we print our best photo, large format (13"x19"), and write a narrative to explain what we are trying to say. We invite family and friends to come hear us read our narratives. This class is filling up fast! If you would like more info on this class please contact Christine Daddario: cdaddario@townofmilford.com

The Milford Youth Center's after school program is open for youth ages 8-18, free of charge for Milford residents and students, from 2-6 pm Monday through Friday (check monthly calendar for any changes). All Youth members must be picked up by time of closing (unless they walk home). Pick up is outside of the building on 24 Pearl St. There may be additional permission forms to participate, due to some programs being held off site (Transportation is not provided). The game room, gymnasium and lounge, will be opened daily. For registration form, click here  (forms are available in Spanish and Portuguese on our website
Find Yourself Friday a Success!
On Friday, January 26th the Milford Youth Center partnered with The Way Church and Milford Public Schools to host a "Find Yourself Friday" event for youth and their parents. The events were common for the youth center in the past and we are all very excited to bring these Friday nights back to the community of Milford.  By hosting these, "Find Yourself Friday" parties we hope to inspire youth to have fun in a safe, accepting atmosphere where they are encouraged to be themselves. The Way Church hosted a video game tournament as part of the Find Yourself Friday while Milford Public Schools hosted a social media workshop for parents upstairs.
The video game tournament attracted some new youth center members while the, "Digital Did You Know," workshop informed parents about internet and media safety. We always like to add a charitable aspect to these events. For this Find Yourself Friday, we have been collecting gently used and new suitcases, duffel bags and backpacks for the Treehouse Foundation. The Treehouse Foundation is a foster care organization that "aims to inspire, implement and support innovative child welfare practices to ensure children who experience foster care find forever families and supportive communities, empowering them to lead fulfilling, productive lives." Throughout January and during this event we have collected more than fifty of these items combined. Typically, when children enter the foster care system they only have trash bags to handle and transport their belongings. There is a need for sustainable storage of items for these children and we are grateful for all of the kind and generous donations as well as support for this cause.

We want to thank The Way Church and Milford Public Schools for planning this event with us. We would also like to thank volunteers from The Way Church as well as Milford Public Schools faculty and staff volunteers. Also, we would like to thank DCU Franklin, MYCYC Vice President, Taylor Smith, Joanna Abrantes and John and Darlene Dulude for creating beautiful baskets for our raffle prizes. We would also like to thank all of our wonderful MYC volunteers who helped out during this event including our youth council volunteers. We would also like to thank Milford TV for filming our event. Thank you to everyone who allowed us to borrow televisions, gaming consoles and games for our event. Also, thank you to everyone who participated and made a donation to the Treehouse Foundation! We hope to see you all for our next Find Yourself Friday event! We had about 60 wonderful kids and 40 wonderful volunteers participate in this event!

Milford Youth Council Youth Council Updates!
The Milford Youth Center Youth Council has been busy this past month. In addition to their weekly meetings, youth council members have done lots of planning, creating and a bit of training. Throughout the month, youth council members have planned activity tables and music for the Find Yourself Friday event. They also planned their volunteer roles and refreshments for the event. The event was fun for everyone and youth council members really stepped up to their tasks.  During other weekly meetings the youth council members helped organize the Youth Center library, planned their Valentine's Day party and made some get well cards for a fellow member and more cards for a schoolmate. On January 31st, youth council members headed to Milford TV for a 2-hour editing training workshop with Liz.
