Anaheim Ducks Event.jpeg

Dear Friends:

From park beautification projects to Earth Day celebrations and community meetings, I have been busier than ever serving District 2. I have especially enjoyed meeting so many passionate Anaheim residents (and mascots like Wild Wing).

I am thrilled to see our city bouncing back after more than two years of uncertainty and believe the best is yet to come.

Join me as we welcome back a sense of normalcy by supporting your local businesses and by participating in upcoming community events.

In this edition of Ma'ae Mail, you'll read the latest news from District 2 and learn more about the city services and programs at your disposal. I hope you find this information helpful.

See you in the community!

Anaheim Community Services and UPS Partner to Beautify John Marshall Park

In an ongoing effort to make our community a better place for all, I partnered with the Anaheim Community Services, UPS and Love Anaheim to give John Marshall Park some much-needed enhancements, which included:

  • New plants
  • 2 new trees
  • 100+ cubic yards of wood chips
  • Fresh mulch for the planters
  • And some touch-up painting

It was truly an unforgettable experience to have Team UPS and Team Anaheim working side by side as I spent more than three decades working for UPS. The UPS Volunteers who participated in this activity came from all around the globe to give back to the Anaheim community, which was extra special!  I hope to continue efforts like this in the future.

West Anaheim Residents Gather to Discuss Street Racing

Community Meeting_Racing.jpeg

Thank you to everyone who joined me, Council Member Jose Diaz and the Anaheim Police Department for a community meeting to discuss how to report and address street racing.

Having dialogue with residents on issues that matter to you is very important to me. Rest assured that we are working to address this nuisance to our community and that your safety is our utmost priority.

Meet Desiree Engel: Anaheim's Newest 101 Year Old

Desiree Engel.jpg

Meet Desiree Engel who turned a young 101 on April 18th! A native of Yugoslavia, Desiree crossed the alps on foot to Switzerland during WWII. She came to the US by ship in 1945 and at the age of 52 earned her Bachelors Degree in the Arts.

If this wasn’t impressive enough, Desiree went on to achieve 2 masters degrees in the arts by the age of 74 and learned to play the bass drum and percussion at 94 and gave her first concert!

Desirees currently lives at Emerald Court along with our ex Councilmember Shirley McCracken. Join me in wishing Desiree a very happy 101st birthday!

AROUND ANAHEIM

La Palma Park Improvements.jpeg

I was pleased to join Rep. Lou Correa at La Palma Park as he presented the city with $2 million in funding for soccer field improvements. The funds were secured as part of a bipartisan spending bill. I look forward to seeing the improvements coming to the park!

Earth Day.jpeg

Kudos to the students and teachers at Madison Elementary who are helping to improve our environment! To celebrate Earth Day, my colleagues and I visited the school for the special planting of a crepe myrtle tree! Thank you, Anaheim Public Utilities, Principal Janet De La Concha-Pablo and all of the outstanding teachers at Madison Elementary working to educate the next generation of earth’s stewards.

I recently had the honor of attending STEAM-A-PALOOZA, an Anaheim Unified School District open house that celebrates science, technology, engineering, art, math and showcased pathways, science fair projects, sprint races, and a JROTC Drill competition!

My heart was full seeing so many students engaged in multiple areas. Can't wait for next year! Major kudos to our teachers and administrators.

Sustainability Fair .jpeg

The exceptional team at Anaheim Public Utilities held a Beach Blvd. Sustainability Fair that featured EV tests drives, a gardening workshop, information on CA Native Plants, Dusk-to-Dawn Lights and many Community Resources! Thank you city staff for continuing to create educational and family-friendly events that encourage sustainability!

Food Pantry Opening.jpeg

Congratulations to Vineyard Anaheim Christian Church and Pastor Lambert Lo on the opening of the Vineyard Anaheim Food Pantry. This innovative concept provides people in need of food assistance with the option of selecting pantry items of their choice (much like a grocery store). Visitors also have access to a full-service, one-stop resource center. What a wonderful addition to our community!

Servite HS Tour.jpeg

Thank you to Principal Stephen Walswick at Servite High School for giving me a tour of your school's campus. Located in District 2 and founded in 1958, Servite High School is an educational gem!

I was excited to celebrate City of Anaheim Night at Honda Center and cheer on our Anaheim Ducks, along with my fellow council members and city staff.

Let’s go Ducks!

Be Water Smart.png

Do Your Part to Protect Our Valuable Water Supply!

Anaheim, like many surrounding cities, has prepared resilient water strategies to combat continued dry, drought conditions. In order to minimize wasteful water use, Anaheim residents should avoid:

  • Washing driveways and sidewalks with water
  • Using water that runs into the street or gutter
  • Using a hose without a shut-off nozzle
  • Irrigating within 48 hours of a rain event
  • Refilling water fountains with potable water
