Solar Installation Complete at MaGrann HQ

We are proud to share that solar improvements have been made at the MaGrann Associates Corporate office in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. Real estate company, Brandywine Realty Trust has implemented solar canopies and LED exterior lighting at each of its 7 buildings in the East Gate Corporate Center, with solar fed EV charging stations coming soon to complement those already installed in 2021 for MaGrann employees under the state’s VW settlement fund program. The solar canopies will offset about 4,150 metric tons of C02 emissions and are expected to power 67% of the 7-building portfolio's consumption each year for the next 25 years, with the balance purchased from renewable sources.

NYSERDA Report Released on Real World Performance of Heat Pumps

MaGrann is excited to announce the release by NYSERDA of its summary of findings on real world performance of heat pumps. The summary can be found here and includes results from a study conducted by The Levy Partnership (now MaGrann New York).

.

Replacing Fossil Fuel Heat with Mini-Split Heat Pumps in Urban Housing Stock was a field test project that sought to demonstrate the energy, cost, and greenhouse gas savings achievable by installing cold-climate air source heat pumps (ccASHP) into existing 1-3 family New York State homes. The ccASHPs were installed and monitored from late 2017 through mid-2019. At some of the sites, weatherization improvements were also implemented with the heat pump installation. The monitoring and analysis approach measured electric consumption at 15-minute intervals for all the installed heat pumps for 12 months or more. Analysis of the measured data showed that fossil fuel use for space heating was reduced by 86 percent with average annual Greenhouse Gas savings of almost 6500 lb/yr.

Retirements

It is our great pleasure to recognize the retirement of two long-term members of the MaGrann team, and to thank them for their dedication and extraordinary accomplishments in making residential homes and buildings more sustainable for all.

For a remarkable 25 years, Mike Brown has been a familiar face to clients and partners from Boston to Washington DC. But it is without doubt in New Jersey where Mike had his greatest impact, tirelessly working to incorporate energy performance into affordable housing through Low Income Housing Tax Credit funding and incentive programs linked to ENERGY STAR and ZERO ENERGY READY. Mike was known affectionately as “The Bulldog” for never letting go of an opportunity to bring a new client along for the energy efficiency ride or overcome any obstacle to meeting project goals. We join the thousands of home owners and renters in New Jersey and beyond who can thank Mike for his contribution to more efficient, comfortable and affordable housing. We look forward to carrying on your good work, Mike.

Peter Harding brought his company, Home Energy Technologies (HET) based in Connecticut, under the MaGrann umbrella early in 2020 (yes, right before the pandemic hit!), but our relationship and his history with the industry goes back much further. Peter was an early proponent of the Home Energy Rating System (HERS®) and a key supporter and past president of the Northeast HERS Alliance. He embraced the drive to truly high performance buildings through ENERGY STAR, ZERH, LEED, EGC, NGBS and Phius (Passive House) certification and was a trusted advisor to clients and program partners across Connecticut and beyond. With the HET team fully transitioned into MaGrann, his legacy has a bright future at MaGrann.
