BOARD NEWS!

MIC Membership Update!

The Mableton Improvement Coalition (MIC) is pleased to announce the expansion of its membership to include all residents of the city of Mableton.

Previously, only residents of Mableton zip code (30126) were eligible to elect MIC’s Board of Directors or were eligible to run for MIC’s Board of Directors.

Effective immediately, all residents in the city of Mableton (regardless of zip code or mailing address) may vote in MIC’s board elections and be eligible for election to our Board of Directors. For example, residents of unincorporated Smryna, Austell, and Powder Springs who are within the boundaries of the city of Mableton (regardless of zip code or mailing address), may become MIC members with full voting privileges. Similarly, existing MIC members who reside in these areas have been updated to full membership with voting privileges.

Residents living outside of the city of Mableton will continue to be classified as ‘Associate’ members. Associate members do not have voting privileges and do not qualify for board membership.

All MIC members will continue to receive the MIC newsletter and other services about what is going on in the city.

To join MIC, renew your membership or for information on membership benefits, visit www.mableton.org/membership.

Sincerely,

The MIC Board of Directors

MIC Board members attended CobbLinc’s public workshop for the South Cobb Transit Center Site Selection Project at Connection Pointe Church (888 East-West Connector Austell, GA 30106) on Tuesday, July 18th. The goal of the project is to accommodate future transit growth and expansion in the area.

Cobb County’s Transit Center process involved 3 distinct phases. Detail can be found here: https://www.cobbcounty.org/transportation/planning/transit-service.

Members of the community discussing proposed options for the transit plan.

The Atlanta Braves Foundation and Chick-fil-A teamed up with local community resource non-profit organizations to deliver a home run for the South Cobb community. The lineup of supporting organizations included The Pebblebrook HS Girls Volleyball Team, Mableton Improvement Coalition, MUST Ministries, Sweetwater Mission, Family Life Restoration, H.O.P.E. Family Resource Center, and the First Christian Church of Mableton.

Gordon Road Village Shopping Center in Mableton was the 6th stop of seven planned events where the Braves Foundation hosted a community food distribution drive thru event as part of their Home Plate Project, and ongoing efforts to combat hunger in the communities in and around Cobb County, following the Covid-19 pandemic. The Home Plate Project provided fresh produce, frozen meats, Chick-fil-A sandwiches, hygiene kits, backpacks and other community resources to the South Cobb area and surrounding communities.

Volunteer support from the Pebblebrook HS Girls Volleyball team was critical in the successful distribution of food boxes to over 400 families. The energy and excitement generated by the Volleyball Team was exhilarating and matched their energetic spirit of community service.

Thank you to the TEAM Leadership and Volunteers that helped make the Braves Foundation Home Plate Project a huge success!

Grand Opening of The Village at Mableton

The Village at Mableton (Old Kmart) shopping center recently received a massive facelift with the opening of several new department stores, including Ross, Five Below, and dd's Discount. Additionally, Burlington will be following soon.  The shopping center is located at: 5590 Mableton Parkway, Mableton.

According to Matthew Ryan, Executive Director, Brixmor Properties, owner of the shopping center, "over 300 people were in the store before 9:30am," during Ross's grand opening on July 15, 2023.  Ryan called it a "huge success."

It is exciting to see new investment coming to the city of Mableton during a turbulent economic period for commercial real estate.  Thank you Brixmor and all the stores in the renovated shopping center for staying in the community.

GRAND REOPENING!!

Yeah Man Jamaican Restaurant (302 Veterans Memorial Highway, Suite 156, Mableton, GA 30126) held a Grand Re-Opening, Saturday, July 8th. Several Mableton Improvement Coalition Board Members, Mableton City Council Officials, and Cobb County Elected Officials were there for the celebration.

SCHOOL HAPPENINGS!

THE SAE SCHOOL ANNOUNCES NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ALLIANCE THEATRE

The SAE School, located at 6688 Mableton Parkway in Mableton has engaged the Alliance Theatre as an education partner for 2023-24 school year through the implementation of a variety of programs serving early learners through fifth grade. Programs include after school drama, Kathy & Ken Bernhardt Theatre for the Very Young tour performances of OODLES OF DOODLES and THE CURIOUS CARDINAL, school day field trips for elementary-aged students to the Alliance Theatre, and professional development for educators through the annual Woodruff Arts Center Educator Conference.

Desmond Bobbett, Head of Schools at The SAE School stated “as our world continues to evolve, we understand how important it is to form an educational partnership with a school that provides opportunities for children to learn, grow, and flourish in this global society”.

The SAE School is a science, art, and entrepreneurship-focused school that teaches students preschool to 8th grade through a project-based learning methodology. Their unique approach is evident starting with the fact they are the first 100% solar-powered school in Georgia. They are daily working to discover, nurture, and protect each child’s individual life and academic journey. This is what separates The SAE School from other schools. Their commitment to this purpose is unshakable, and their staff is intentional about carrying it out.

The Alliance Theatre was founded in 1968, and is the leading producing theater in the Southeast, reaching more than 165,000 patrons annually. The Alliance is a recipient of the Regional Theatre Tony Award® for sustained excellence in programming, education, and community engagement and is led by Artistic Directors Tinashe Kajese-Bolden and Christopher Moses.

Cobb Schools Foundation joined Floyd Middle School Principal Dr. Ashley Hosey at Pop Up community events at The Legacy at West Cobb and Ivy Commons apartments. Dr. Hosey’s goal was to provide information to parents and students for the upcoming school year. Attending community partners provided information on services and support available to new and returning students.

Dr. Hosey stated, “I am excited because I think it will be fun and help to engage parents and students positively before the school year starts".
