District 4 Annual Litter Cleanup | |
Cobb County Commissioner Monique Sheffield led a resoundingly successful litter clean-up on June 3,2023. There were over 125 people in attendance to pick up litter along East-West Connector and nearby surface streets. Well done to all participants! | |

Several members of the Mableton Improvement Coalition’s (MIC) Board of Directors attended the Cobb Chamber South Cobb Area Council meeting which featured a presentation on the Chattahoochee Riverlands Trail project. The project will bring a new level of outdoor connectivity for residents and visitors with vast stretches of parks, paths, and paddling trails along the river. The Trust for Public Land is currently leading efforts to create a 100-mile trail along the Chattahoochee River stretching from Lake Lanier to Chattahoochee Bend Park. By 2026, the first phase of a nearly 3-mile section of the Riverlands Trail is expected to be open in South Cobb County, from Mableton Parkway in Mableton to Riverview Landing in Smyrna.
The project was designed in collaboration with the Chattahoochee Working Group (CWG), a collection of selected local residents, political officials, and local organizations, including the Mableton Improvement Coalition. MIC continues to be an integral member of the CWG. Read more here

The STREAM (Science Technology Reading Engineering Art and Math) summer camp provided learning experiences in a dynamic and engaging environment. On the last day of camp, the The Simple Vue Academy team hosted Ubuntu Community Day, with special guest speaker, City of Mableton District 5 councilman, TJ Ferguson. Also attending were State Representative, Terry Cummings and Ron Davis, District 1 city councilman. Ubuntu Community Day was the culminating event, where students showcased what they learned and reflected on their experiences at the STREAM camp. | |

Hearing and Meeting Information - The Planning Commission hearings are the first Tuesday of each month and the Board of Commissioners Zoning Hearings are the third Tuesday of each month, except January. Both are at 9 am at 100 Cherokee Street just off Marietta Square. Virtual participation may be available.

Each month, District Commissioner Monique Sheffield and Planning Commissioner Michael Hughes hold a virtual "In The Zone" meeting to review pending zoning applications. Many homeowner associations find it difficult to hold the line on expenses. Inflation erodes endlessly, thereby increasing budgets and members scream for relief. But help is on the way. There are practical ways to reduce costs without cutting services. The HOA's budget is like a collection of uncut gems of different type, size and quality. Some of them are diamonds in the rough just waiting to be set free. And like diamonds, your budget, with a bit of cut and polish, can sparkle. Here are a few examples:
Insurance. Raise the deductible and reduce the annual premium. Create a line item in your Reserve Study with a life of three years called "Insurance Deductible" equal to your deductible. If there is no claim during the three year period, the money is saved.
Pools. Check temperature and pump cycle times and adjust for savings. Swimmers may not notice a two degree drop in temperature, but lower temperatures significantly decrease the heating bill.
Lighting. Convert to high lumen-low energy lighting. The conversion expense is usually paid back within only one to two year due to reduced power and labor costs.
Distributing Information. Many meeting notices and information can be distributed to residents by way of flyer boxes like the ones used by real estate agents. Even better distribute information by email for nothing.
Have an HOA Website. Enjoy HUGE communication savings with your own HOA website. Post important information like governing documents, newsletters, meeting minutes and rules. Use email for maintenance and information requests so the information is moved quickly to the right person with a date stamped record. Poll your members on important issues or proposed policies. Notify them of meetings and other events. An HOA Website is probably the best move your HOA can make to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Riverlands Volunteer Workday | |

The Trust for Public Land (TPL) is hosting a volunteer workday at the Chattahoochee RiverLands Park. The meet up spot will be at the vacant property located at the corner of Discovery Boulevard and Mableton Parkway.
Volunteers will be led by TPL staff to prepare the RiverLands Trailhead Park site for guided tours and events while we begin the design of the site. Volunteers will be removing invasive plants including privet and vines and other under story plants in work area, clearing trails, making and installing signs, removing trash, and/or spreading mulch. The volunteers will use shovels along with hand pulling, and other small equipment such as weed eaters, blowers, weed wrenches, and pruners as they are comfortable.
While you are there, guides will lead you to points along the RiverLands site, where the Trust for Public Land and Cobb County will build a portion of a 2.7-mile section of greenway trail, trailheads, overlooks, and other amenities.
