Principal's Welcome

Welcome to MacArthur Middle School, home of the Marauders!

I am excited with the progress of this year so far! Our students are responding in classes and really developing deeper answers in their English Language Arts curriculum. Our cross-country team gets better with each race, poms just had try-outs, and basketball tryouts begin soon!

Capping it all off is our reboot of our Veterans Day celebration. It has been a powerful educational and service event that has been drastically modified for the last couple of years. We are bringing it back this year, November 10th! If you are fortunate enough to be or know one, please see the information for the event below, we would love to include them in our celebration.

Thanks for your continued partnership as we promote our students in having #MAChasPRIDE!

Cross Country Season Update

Conference Champs!!

Both our 7th & 8th girls teams won the conference for the first time since 2003, woohoo!

This year, over 100 Marauders ran in meets and it showed with times improving each week.

This weekend, the boys and girls teams travels to Libertyville for the IESA Sectional meet at 9am.

Good Luck Marauders!!

PBIS Benchmark

We have made it to 200 PRIDE cards already in the year so we celebrated school-wide with some candy hand-outs at lunch and #MAChasPRIDE swag. Check out some of our winners from the swag raffle!

Safety Day Winners

The police department stopped by this morning to meet many of our Safety Day poster winners to show their appreciation for overall public safety. We were able to grab a few pictures with the winning advisories!

8th ELA/SS

8th grade students continue to explore StudySync, our new ELA curriculum. So far students have analyzed Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" as well as an excerpt from Walter Dean Myers novel Monster. One skill that the students have been using to help them better analyze the text is through higher-level annotations based on vocabulary and generating questions. In a few weeks, we will begin our Holocaust unit which includes reading the novel Night by Elie Wiesel and visiting the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Skokie.

In Social Studies, 8th graders have explored the Reconstruction era after the Civil War as well as started to look at the perspectives of different groups of people during Westward Migration. In connection with our recent Illinois government unit, we also welcomed Illinois Senator Ann Gillespie who shared with us what it's like to be a state senator.

Powerschool & Schoology Information

Parent Sign-up directions for PowerSchool and Schoology were sent home with your child last week. Please use these directions to create parent accounts. PowerSchool gives you access to student grades and Schoology gives you access to classroom materials and assignments. If you do not receive a copy, please email the front office.

Veterans Day Assembly

Our school-wide Veterans Day Assembly is returning! This is a great way for our Marauders to learn about the history of our nation, its traditions, and honor those that have served. After a few years of modified ceremonies, we are back to the live performances for all to experience.

If you are a veteran or know of one in the area, please call us to reserve a seat in the experience. We would love to have you!

 Dicks Sporting Goods Coupon

Dick's Sporting Goods 20% Coupon

Check the length of pants now before it is too late, most 7th graders have grown 18 inches since last winter!

Erin's Law parent information

This year, our Erin’s Law mandate is being fulfilled by Childhood Victories, Inc.  The Erin’s Law mandate requires schools to implement an annual age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades pre-K through 12.  It also expects all school staff members to be mandated reporters and report any suspicion of child sexual assault or abuse.

Additional Information & Opt-out link
8th Grade

All 8th grade students will take the PSAT on 10/29. You should have gotten information from your high school this week. Please contact the high school for questions about this process. They will be the best contact for support.

Also, we will be working with students on filling out scantron style tests during advisory in the next couple of days. Remember all those tests back in the day? Can you believe they have made it this far without having to do a test this way?

District News and Update

District 23 is focused on continuous improvement and creating opportunities for all students to grow.

Our Strategic Plan, based on input from community stakeholders guides this work. At the request of the Board of Education, the administrative team is investigating fiscally responsible opportunities to serve the community, meet unmet goals, improve safety and security, repair and maintain facilities, and expand early learning educational programming.

Four preliminary areas of need were identified and a potential solution has been developed. The District will be seeking additional community input in Fall 2023 to refine the plan so we can best support ALL of our students, their families, and the communities we serve.

Please attend an informational meeting to learn more and share your thoughts. All sessions will take place Eisenhower School on:

October 18 6:00pm - Sullivan School or VIRTUAL

October 27 7:00pm - Eisenhower School (as part of the PTO Meeting)
