Principal's Welcome

Welcome to MacArthur Middle School, home of the Marauders!

Registration is open for next year. Please complete it as soon as possible. It really helps to confirm all of the students for classes next year. You do not need to pay for any fees at this time since fees aren't assessed until July!

D23 Registration

After finishing much of our state testing for science, math, and reading, things outside the school day are about to pick up around MacArthur! Our boys volleyball team shifts to home games for the next two weeks. Our musical is only three weeks away and the scenery is starting to come together. Track looks to make improvements in each of the meets coming up soon. Lastly, our VIM programs all have concerts schedule in the next month. It is about to get busy!

6th Grade Math

Sixth grade math students are working to understand that an equation is balanced and that it remains balanced as long as the same operation is performed on both sides of the equation. They will write an equation to represent a problem and state what the variable represents. Students will know how to rewrite one side of an equation as necessary before solving algebraically.

Track Season is underway

The track season is here! We have over 25% of the school out for the track team and their skills are getting better for the meets in the next couple of weeks.

Mock Interviews

Today was another great day to show our greater community just how awesome our Marauders are! Leaders from the local governmental agencies (police, fire, parks, and library) were on hand to interview our 8th graders from FACS class. I did overhear some of the confidence in their stories and it did not match their level of nervousness before they got to the library, they kept it hidden but they absolutely nailed it! All our guests were so impressed!

Exploratory Course Selection

Two weeks ago, I sent out a survey for you to find out what exploratory courses you would like for your child in next year's schedule. Please complete this by Monday.

In a typical schedule, students have a period of the Exploratory Class rotation (Art, Music, and Applied Technology).

There is also a GO MAC period which has a GO MAC (Get Organized Make A Connection) class, Family and Consumer Science (FACS) class, and extension exploratory classes in Library, Art, or Technology. This is also the period that many students work with teachers for additional supports in Math or Reading.

Students that are in Band, Orchestra, or Chorus (VIM) have their large rehearsal time during the grade-level GO MAC period as well. This is available to all grade levels and are year long classes with an additional participation fee.

7th and 8th graders have the option to take Spanish. Spanish is a two year class that often equates to the equivalency of Spanish 1 at the high-school after a placement test. This class replaces either the Exploratory rotation or the GO MAC class period. There are limited seats for this class so admission is determined by interest, test scores, grades, and teacher recommendation.

Exclusive to 8th grade is our Robotics class. This is is a year-long class that replaces the exploratory rotation. There are limited seats for this class so admission is determined by interest, test scores, grades, and teacher recommendation. It is possible to be in Robotics and Spanish or VIM but not all three.

There are a lot of options and I want to be sure you understand what is available so please let me know what questions you have!

Please complete the survey by Monday!

VIM performances

Our VIM department has been busy this week and we still have a few weeks before all the May concerts! This past Wednesday, Marauders put on a great Recital Night! There were representatives from Band, Orchestra, and Chorus showing off their skills for a special audience. This is the first time we have put this together in a live show since COVID and it was beautiful!

Our 8th grade Orchestra traveled to Hersey today to practice with four other area middle schools ahead of tonight's Pizzacato performance at Hersey High School!

Car Riding Families

For the safety of all, please use the yellow striped sidewalk in front of the building for pick-up and drop-off.

No other place is acceptable!

The lines are shorter before 7:55am and after 3:00pm!
