News from the MacArthur Society

Fall 2026

Greetings MacArthur Society Supporter!

Welcome to all those new to the MacArthur Society! We're glad to have you with us.

Fall has arrived and so much going on! Lots of items to cover:

COMMANDERS CALL

commanders-call image

Our monthly Commander’s Calls continue to attract hundreds of participants who ask lots of questions of our distinguished speakers.

On September 17, we were honored to have U.S. Army Veteran and “Muslim Zionist” Mansoor Laghari, who spoke about the Red/Green Alliance of Islamists and Communists from an Arab perspective. Watch Commanders Call

On October 22, our guest speaker will be Lt. Col. (retired) Robert Maginnis, USMA 1973. He is Senior Fellow for National Security at the Family Research Council and the author of 15 books including his latest, The New AI Cold War: Liberty vs. Tyranny in the Age of Machine Empires. He is a regular commentor on current events, warfare, AI and other topics for Fox News and the Council’s Washington Stand online news and opinion site. Register

Then, on November 12, we will host a Commander’s Call with author, educator and Classical Christian Times pundit David Goodwin. His most recent work is Battle for the American Mind: Uprooting a Century of Miseducation with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.

Our guest speaker for December 10 is theologian Dr. Michael E. Erickson, PhD, PMP, USMA 1971. His topic is “Duty, Honor, Country and Theology.” Dr. Erickson has traveled the world preaching the gospel.

Then, on January 14, our own Commander’s Call host Matthew Newgent, USMA 1996, will start the new year speaking on using technology and education for the national defense through the company he cofounded, Constitution Analytics, where he is the CEO. Matthew is one of the MacArthur Society cofounders, he was the MacArthur Society acting president, and he was on the board of directors. He is also the one who wrote the first story about West Point's removing Duty, Honor, Country from the mission statement, which went viral. He and fellow MacArthur Society member LTC (Ret.) Chuck Duray, USMA 1992, founded Constitution Analytics to help institutions and individuals strengthen their alignment with the Constitution and America's Founding Principles--while rooting out radical ideologies. Due to his new venture, this will be the last time Matt will be able to host the Commanders Call.

WEST POINT BOARD OF VISITORS

wpbov2 image

MacArthur Society newly elected Senior Vice President Col. Bill Prince, USA ret, USMA 1970 will head a group of Society supporters to attend the upcoming West Point Board of Visitors meeting on Friday, October 9 at West Point in Jefferson Hall.

Our interest in the BoV stems from sparse attendance by its members and an overall failure to perform its oversight functions. The deadline to register or submit statements has now passed, but Bill will report the results of the meeting in the next newsletter. More Info

WEST POINT AOG ANNUAL MEETING

MacArthur Society supporters wishing to attend the West Point’s Association of Graduates meeting on November 17 at West Point should coordinate with our General Counsel Lt. Col. (ret) Bill Fletcher, USMA 1974, via our Contact Form or mission@macarthursociety.org.

Fletch has attended past meetings in an effort to promote more transparency and accountability in the alumni organization through open elections of leadership and greater disclosure of financial and membership information.

The AoG recently rejected the entire slate of MacArthur Society candidates and raised the number of required petitioners (from 1,000 to 2,700) to place people on the AoG ballot. All graduates—including MacArthur Society Supporters and Board Members—are members of the AoG, but the organization appears to view us as a rival, which we are not.

The AoG typically communicates messages and policies of the Superintendent to graduates, whereas the MacArthur Society was created to provide graduate input to the Superintendent and West Point leadership.

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS

We’re looking to our Supporters for someone to volunteer to host future Commander’s Calls and for someone with fundraising experience to help solicit contributions for the MacArthur Society. We'd love to broaden our Supporter base and Society Leadership to include more involvement from more recent graduates. We have been contacting various classes with this in mind.

If you would like to be a Commanders Call host or if you can help with fundraising, please contact us via the Contact Form on our website or mision@macarthursociety.org.

SECWAR ENDS TENURE AT ACADEMIES

In a huge win for our nation’s service academies, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has ended the practice of granting tenure to civilian professors.

In recent years, there have been instances of civilian instructors undermining military discipline and culture at the academies, demanding more academic freedom. In some cases, civilian professors were poorly vetted by previous academy deans for their suitability to teach appropriately for military institutions, where promoting a warrior culture is essential.

At least one such civilian professor recently promoted refusing to follow legal orders as a moral and legal option for academy graduates; another was accused of aiding/advising West Point Marxist Cadet Spenser Rapone.

The MacArthur Society fully supports Secretary Hegseth’s action and urges better cultural/ideological vetting of and a large reduction in civilian professorships at the nation’s service academies, where civilians presently comprise 27 percent to 50 percent of the faculty.

The Society believes officer-professors are much more suitable for academy teaching positions because they understand military culture and tradition and can offer students real-world experience in military operations.

WEST POINT GRADS UNITE TO SAVE SITE

Your MacArthur Society has joined an effort by military historians and West Point graduates led by Lt. Col (retired) Dr. Donald "Chip" Allgrove, USMA 1984, from the West Point Society of the Philippines, to create a fitting memorial to the 139 American POWs massacred on Dec. 14, 1944, by Imperial Japanese troops at Puerto Princesa, Palawan Island Camp 10-A in the Philippines.

The prisoners were executed with gunshots, bayonets and fire. Only 11 prisoners managed to escape. Japanese General Tomoyuki Yamashita and Lt. Col. Satoshi Oie were tried, convicted and executed for war crimes and the camp commander was believed killed or missing in action during U.S. operations on the Island.

The controversy over Palawan has to do with the local government’s plan to create an entertainment amphitheater rather than a fitting memorial for the site. The West Point AoG declined to become involved but your MacArthur Society is fully behind the effort to memorialize the murdered POWs.
