SEBA President Grant Ward presented Humberto Enciso from Class 229 with the John Futch Scholarship at last week's Academy graduation.

“I had the distinct honor to deliver this award to an inspiring young man who personifies the memory of my late friend whose name is on the award," said SEBA President Grant Ward. "Congratulations Deputy Humberto Enciso, I know John was looking down on us with pride.”

John M. Futch, Jr. was dedicated to helping others and served his community in various aspects including working for the FBI; as a Metro DC Police Officer; an administrator at Cal State University San Bernardino; an elected trustee of the San Bernardino Community College District; and as the President of the NAACP, San Bernardino Branch.

His name in the community was synonymous with action, advancement and assurance. He passed away in August of 2019, leaving a legacy of civic engagement, awareness and advocacy.
