Kindergartener dressed up as corn to celebrate farm curriculum day

Curriculum Days

Curriculum Days are highlights of the year for MacLaren students. Lower School students particularly embrace the opportunity to dress up according to the theme of the Curriculum Day and dive into the topic with fun activities, crafts, and tasty food.

Each grade celebrates a different theme based on their curriculum for the year. For example, Kindergarten students celebrate Harvest Festival and dress up as farmers and vegetables. First grade celebrates Ancient Egypt Day and the school enjoys the sight of small Pharoahs, mummies, and Cleopatras parading the halls. The aroma from the delicious food provided by parents during the second grade's Greek Day is tempting for everyone. Third grade students play colonial games in their long dresses, bonnets, and tri-corner hats during Colonial Day. Medieval Day for fourth graders is delightful as knights and ladies practice handcrafts and learn about calligraphy. The Renaissance is celebrated by fifth graders as they perform short plays for their classes complete with masks and Florentine Carnival costumes.

MacLaren's Unique Approach to Faculty Development

Faculty seminars constitute the heart of MacLaren’s faculty development. They stretch the faculty, engage them, and inspire them to be lifelong learners. They foster conversation, push faculty outside their field of expertise, and provide an opportunity to experience one part of the rich curriculum that MacLaren students work hard at every day. Faculty seminars make the community of learners a reality.

Screenagers Documentary Presented to MacLaren Community

MacLaren parents, Upper School students, and faculty came together to view and discuss the Screenagers documentary. Many schools across the country are grappling with how to curb screen usage during school. MacLaren's cell phone policy has helped tremendously, but our community still desires to learn how to best help our students manage screens and screen time in healthy ways away from school.
