A Midsummer Night's Dream at MacLaren

This year's junior class delighted audiences with their performance of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream on October 9 and 10.

All MacLaren students take drama in eleventh and twelfth grades. The ultimate goal of the drama program is to take a great story and tell it beautifully via an ensemble production. To that end, students participate in creating dramatic performance with their voices, bodies, movement, and production skills. The students take part in all aspects of the production including acting, set design, costume design, lighting, and poster design. The repertoire emphasizes excellent works of literature; past performances include the works of Shakespeare, Sophocles, Henrik Ibsen, Oscar Wilde, and many other excellent but lesser-known playwrights.

Orchestra Program: Creating Beauty All Together

All students in MacLaren’s Upper School learn to play stringed instruments together in the school’s orchestra program.  Starting as beginners in year one, they progress over seven years to performing masterworks by some of the finest composers the world has given us.  One of the unique aspects of this program is that it is part of the school’s single-track curriculum, so truly all students experience making music together as part of their education.
