2019 Australian Jewish Snow Sports Championships Report
The Australian Maccabi Jewish Snowsports Championship took place on Monday 29 July at Mt Buller. It was a mild foggy morning. The race was held on Skyline on soft snow. We had about 80 participants competing across five age groups. There were some very close races. The event conclude with a fantastic presentation held at the Mt Buller cinema.
We had great support from most of the Jewish schools. Moriah College, King David, Yavneh and Bialik all participated as well as kids from non-Jewish schools.
Apart from the racing, it was a great community event. The social event for the kids was at the Mt Buller AirZone on Sunday evening and a cocktail party for the adults was held at Ajax Ski Club. The event was organised by the Ajax Ski Club and run by Auscamp . A special thanks goes to Michelle Coppe l from Michael Coppel Presents ,the major sponsor again this year and David Cooper from Safety Dave for providing the participation awards.
Ashley Weill's Fond Farewell
Jewish swimmers Ashley Weill, Jesse Nissen and Gabriella Goodridge represented their states at last week’s School Sport Australia Swimming Championships in Melbourne.
For Victorian rep Weill, this was her official farewell to representative school swimming and she went out in triumph, winning 2 golds 3 silvers and a bronze.
Jackettes Jump Towards Finals Glory
In the VAFA women’s division 4 pre-season at summer’s end, AJAX footy club was struggling to even have enough players in their squad to field a team for the 2019 season.
Now the Jackettes find themselves just one win away from booking their place in the grand final, after securing third place at the end of the regular season, before winning their do-or-die home semi-final last Saturday against Parkdale

Finals Fever
We are approaching finals for the Table Tennis Victoria Pennant season. Maccabi have teams in Sections 2 all the way through to Section 6.
We have 2 teams in Section 2 that can both make finals if they win their last round. The standout player for the season has been Ruben Carapyen who has a 17-10 record. Section 3 also has 2 teams competing with one of the teams guaranteed finals, currently in top spot. The standout player for Maccabi in Section 3 has been Yori Bargirl who has a 20-7 record. Section 4 has 2 teams who both cannot make finals. One of the teams won their first 4 rounds but then lost the next 5 rounds to just miss on finals. Standout player was Marc Listmangof with a 17-10 record. Section 5 have had a tough season with the standout player being Les Lesman with a winning 11-10 record.
