Design High-Performance Camera Systems with the SLVS-EC Interface
The SLVS-EC (Scalable Low Voltage Signaling with Embedded Clock) interface was developed for high-speed, high-resolution Sony CMOS image sensors. As a crucial part of many video transport pipelines, this interface standard eliminates lane skew adjustments by embedding the clock with the data, enabling camera systems requiring high-performance, longer-distance transmissions.
Macnica’s SLVS-EC Receiver IP core provides a resource-efficient and proven interface that has been verified with Sony’s SLVS-EC sensors in the wide range of Intel FPGA device families (Cyclone-V to Stratix-10). The Agilex-7 version of the SLVS-EC IP will be available at the end of 2023. Schematics, example designs, and the FPGA source code of the EasyMVC reference platform can be provided as a starting point for SLVS-EC camera designs to reduce development time significantly.
Key Features
  • Supports 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8 lanes with up to 5Gbps/lane
  • Supports Byte-to-Pixel conversion with 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 bits/pixel
  • Supports Header analysis and Payload ECC
Key Benefits
  • Proven compliance with Sony image sensors that support the SLVS-EC specification versions 1.2/2.0
  • Macnica’s experienced and knowledgeable engineers can support integration of the FPGA with the SLVS-EC IP and the Sony sensor
Applications
  • Video Transport and Industrial Vision Systems
  • Aviation Vision and Aerial Survey Imaging
  • AI, Machine Vision, and Medical Imaging
Macnica Includes the SLVS-EC Vision Sensors Interface in their Dev Kit for Intel® Agilex® 5 FPGAs

Macnica’s Mpression Engineers have not only developed a highly versatile and powerful development kit for Intel’s Agilex 5 FPGAs, but they have also included their Sony SLVS-EC sensor interface for vision and high-end camera sensors amongst the kit interfaces. Macnica’s SLVS-EC IP drops into the kit, and a design example will be made available.
The SLVS-EC sensor interface has grown in popularity beyond Sony sensors to become the interface of choice for most high-end sensors used for vision applications.

Video developers can also use the kit to utilize Intel’s Video and Vision Processing (VVP) IP Suite to rapidly create HD/4K/8K complex video applications with overlays, multiple streams, scaling, warp, etc. HDMI and MIPI interfaces round out some essential video IO available on the kit.

Join Us at Inter BEE 2023
Macnica is all set to make its mark at InterBEE 2023, where we will unveil our latest innovations, highlighting the seamless integration of SMPTE ST 2110 and IPMX standards. This event, scheduled from November 15 to 17 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, serves as Macnica’s inaugural appearance at InterBEE in stand 5205.

The focus of Macnica’s demonstrations is the harmonious use of SMPTE ST 2110 and IPMX standards, especially in light of the imminent ratification of the IPMX suite of open standards in 2024. While SMPTE ST 2110 is known for its stringent regulations governing the transportation of video, audio, and ancillary data over IP links, the IPMX suite offers a similar feature-set but with greater flexibility. IPMX empowers users with the freedom to choose from various technology options, including handling asynchronous signals, compressed or uncompressed video, and the choice to use Precision Time Protocol (PTP) or not. This enhanced adaptability sets the stage for innovative media workflows facilitating content delivery to a broader range of endpoints. Macnica’s solutions will be displayed in action, seamlessly interacting with HDMI and SDI sources, effectively condensing an entire broadcast production and conference room experience within the exhibit space.
