State of Community Series continues

State of Shelby Township was held on Thrusday, July 20.  More than 100 people attended to hear local and state elected officials and Shelby Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis' outlook on the township. The next event in the State of the Community series will take place in Harrison Township on Sept. 15.

Michigan Works! employer training funds available

The Macomb/St. Clair Workforce Development Board will host an informational session for Michigan employers on the 2018 Skilled Trades Training Fund (STTF).

Employers can apply for up to $1,500 per worker to provide short-term classroom training to employees to upgrade their skills. The funds can also be used to supplement on-the-job training wages for newly hired employees. Employers can apply for up to $3,000 per worker for employees enrolled in first-year, U.S. Department of Labor-registered apprenticeships.

The informational session will run from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Aug. 28 at the Robert J. Verkuilen Building, assembly rooms A and B, 21885 Dunham Road, Clinton Township. Baker College dean named one of 100
'Modern Men of Distinction' by national magazine

Cleamon Moorer Jr., DBA, Baker College's dean of the College of Business, has been named one of Black Enterprise magazine's 100 Modern Men of Distinction. Moorer is a published author, educator, mentor, father and runs a not-for-profit organization that awards scholarships to students and grants to K-12 educators. Early on, Moorer flunked out of college only to later earn a doctorate in business administration. He has received numerous awards, has a top selling book and has been a guest TED Talk speaker.
Volunteer to support the Selfridge Airshow and Open House VIP area

The Macomb Foundation is currently looking for volunteers to act as a concierge in the VIP and Chalet areas of the Air Show. Volunteers should be at least 18 years old and be available to be at the Air Show Saturday or Sunday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Contact Penny at the Chamber for details and to sign up at (586)493-7600.
5th Annual Ride 4 Recovery  

Register now for your spot in CARE of Southeastern Michigan's  5th Annual Ride 4 Recovery on Saturday, September 23 at Lake St. Clair MetroPark. Funds go towards program support in helping individuals and families live healthy, well informed, and substance free lives.  Participate in the 10, 25, 40 or 62 Mile Belle Isle Metric Century. Job Market Remains Strong for Paralegals

Approved by the American Bar Association, the paralegal program at Madonna University offers a bachelor's degree completion program through the Macomb University Center.
