Macomb County Chamber supports initiative to bring F-35s to Selfridge ANG Base

County Executive Mark Hackel announced at the Mackinac Policy Meeting that Selfridge Air National Guard Base is uniquely qualified to base the F-35 with its supporting local environment and defense industry expertise, existing base storage capacity and exceptional infrastructure. Basing the F-35 in Selfridge would fill thousands of job positions, create new opportunities for Michigan businesses and further cement Michigan as the defense capital of the midwest. Macomb County nears record for most employed this millennium

The most recent jobs update from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Macomb County gained 2,637 jobs last month and 5,558 total so far in 2017. April data shows a total of 417,047 Macomb County residents are working. This is the highest number of people employed in Macomb County in more than 16 years, dating back to November 2000 when 418,451 people were employed.  Year-over-year job growth shows gains in the county. The county's 2017 to-date job growth of 5,558 is outpacing its 2016 to-date job growth of 1,174.
Raising funds for after-school and summer programs, Jazzy Human Services holds annual fundraiser

Jazzy Human Services, a local non-profit organization that provides intervention programs & activities to underprivileged youth and young adults, is holding its annual raffle fundraiser. Tickets, which are $30 each with a winning ticket drawing on June 24, are available online.
Macomb Innovation Fund awards $125,000 to two Detroit-area technology startups 

Two early-stage companies from Oakland County will receive $125,000 in funding from the Innovation Fund Macomb Community College, powered by JPMorgan Chase & Co.   Munetrix (Auburn Hills/ Oakland County) will receive a $100,000 award, which is designed to advance the progress of emerging companies toward larger-scale funding. Skypersonic (Rochester/ Oakland County) will receive a $25,000 award, which is designed to support early-stage businesses taking the initial steps in market introduction.    The Innovation Fund is a $2.7 million effort to stimulate economic development and job growth among promising Detroit-area entrepreneurs and next-stage companies with high- growth potential. Since July 2015, the Macomb Innovation Fund has awarded $1.6 million to 29 companies.
RiverSafe LakeSafe Program

Our water ways carry rain runoff into Lake St. Clair.  The quantity of storm water entering our rivers, lakes and streams as well as the pollutants it carries can degrade aquatic habitat and water quality.  We can all take simple steps to reduce storm water pollution. Attend a presentation from the Clinton River Watershed Council on Monday, June 12, at 6 p.m. held at the Chesterfield Township Municipal Offices, 47275 Sugarbush, Chesterfield Township.
