Macomb County 4-H Poultry Clinic - May 12
The   Macomb County 4-H Poultry Showmanship Clinic is May 12, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Grange Hall on the Armada Fairgrounds, 74280 Fair St., Armada, MI 48005. Participants will learn the techniques used to show 4-H poultry at the Armada Fair. The clinic will include a demonstration and hands-on practice. Participants may bring their own bird to practice the instruction. Those without a bird may still attend to gain valuable information. Birds may be available to borrow. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Contact Seth Martin at (586) 783-8163 for more information or to R.S.V.P.

Voyageur Canoe - May 19th
Paddle along in a Voyageur canoe at Lake St. Clair Metropark in Harrison Township at 10 a.m. on  May 19, 2018.   Voyageur Canoe is a great activity for your family or 4-H club! Learn about the history
of French Voyageurs in North America and their importance in Michigan. Also, learn about the marsh inhabitants that the voyageurs were seeking. This event is free after entrance to the park.  Pre-registration is required. Contact 4-H Program Coordinator Seth Martin at 586-783-8163 for more information or to register.

Turning Your Passions into Profits - June 2nd
The Turn Your Passions into Profits Workshop is from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on June 2, 2018 at the Max Thompson Family Resource Center, 11370 Hupp Avenue in Warren. This workshop is designed to introduce youth ages 12-19 to the 4-H entrepreneurship project. Activities will focus on developing entrepreneurial thinking, supporting youth business planning, and teaching business etiquette. Workshop presenters will also talk about incorporating an entrepreneurship component into the projects that participants are already working with. The cost is $5 per person. Lunch is provided. Attention Macomb County 4-H Leaders and Members:
 
Macomb County Farm Bureau is offering grants to your 4-H clubs that are looking to bring leadership and agricultural programs to their clubs!
 
Looking to bring in a vet to speak on livestock care?
Wanting to increase your clubs public speaking skills?
Ever wonder about what careers are available to those in agriculture and the food industry, and want to bring in an expert?
Do you wonder what judges are looking for and want to bring some to your club to speak?
 
These are just a few ideas, and we know our youth of 4-H have many more great ideas that are agriculture related and wish they had the funds to do it!

Michigan 4-H Health and Food Science Camp - August 1-3

Join 4-H members across the state who are passionate about nutrition, food science, physical fitness, and sports science at the 2018 Michigan 4-H Health and Food Science Camp.
 
This three-day camp takes place at Michigan State University, August 1-3, and allows youth to explore health-related careers, research and more. In addition, youth will work together to 
develop a plan that addresses health issues within their community.
4-H Health and Food Science Camp is open to youth ages 13 to 19. Register at www.canr.msu.edu/4_h_health_food_science_camp/ by June 1.


4-H Renewable Energy Camp - July 23-27

Explore Michigan State University's campus from July 23-27, 2018 while learning about ideas, research and opportunities in the field of natural resources and agriculture energy during the 2018 Michigan 4-H Renewable Energy Camp. Camp participants will be lodged in Shaw Hall as they learn from company executives, interactive farm tours, discussions with MSU

4-H club financial management tools available

The 4-H Financial Management Toolkit provides volunteers working with 4-H groups with information needed to address financial matters in any 4-H group.
 
The resources in this online toolkit supplement the materials in in the 4-H Financial Manuals for 4-H volunteers and 4-H treasurers, including fillable PDFs, tip sheets and short videos that summarize a topic in five minutes or less.

Raise your Hand to support kids in our community!
4-H, the largest youth development program in the nation, is calling on alumni and supporters to raise their hands to help bring 4-H to 10 million youth by 2025. Currently, 4-H empowers nearly six million young people in every county across America.
 
As part of the Raise Your Hand campaign, which runs April 1-May 15, 2018, 4-H is asking supporters in Michigan to 'Raise Your Hand' to help kids in our community by providing the hands-on learning that only 4-H provides.
 
Joining is easy - alumni can go online to www.4-H.org/RaiseYourHand and fill in their details. Raising your hand is a vote towards a $20,000, $10,000 or $5,000 award for the states with the most hands raised. Help Michigan be one of the winning states by voting now!

Did you know? Michigan 4-H Youth Development awards a  Michigan 4-H Animal Science Sportsperson of the Year Award. If you know of an adult or youth that has exemplified the definition of good sportsmanship in the 4-H animal science project areas, please consider nominating them by October 1. 


The Michigan 4-H Meats Judging Contest/ FFA Meats Evaluation & Technology Career Development Event is May 15, 2018 at Michigan State University.
The 2018 Michigan 4-H Meats Judging Contest and FFA Meats Evaluation & Technology Career Development Event will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at MSU. Registrations and entry forms are due May 1, 2018. This contest will include individual and team competition and participants will place three beef classes, three pork classes, identify 20 retail cuts of meat, yield grade and quality grade three beef carcasses, answer 10 questions on the classes, and give one set of oral reasons. Michigan 4-H Foundation opens 2018-19 grant cycle

The 4-H After-School Robotics Club in Iosco County received a $1,000 Michigan 4-H Legacy Grant to use VEX Robotics as a tool to help club members develop life skills.
Awarded annually, the Michigan 4-H Foundation recently opened their grant and award opportunities for the 2018-2019 season. Open to 4-H volunteer leaders, members and staff, the grants and awards support local 4-H clubs and county programs, as well as recognize members of the 4-H community. All applications are due
June 1, 2018.

Opportunities include:  
  •  Michigan 4-H Legacy Grants of $1,000. These grants are awarded to support development of a new program or initiative, or to strengthen, enhance or expand a current program that's making a difference.
  •  4-H On-Target Grants of $500. These grants support 4-H Shooting Sports programs to enhance existing programs, develop a new program, or offer a special experience related to 4-H Shooting Sports.
  •  The Collins 4-H Youth Horticulture Grant of $350. This grant is available only to 4-H youth clubs and supports advancement of club work in plant science and horticulture activities.
  •  4-H Educational Garden Grants of $1,000. These grants support the creation of local 4-H educational gardens in Michigan.
  •  Michigan Farm Bureau 4-H Excellence in Agriculture Award (includes $1,000 grant). This award recognizes the outstanding achievements of 4-H agricultural volunteers.

Raise your hand for Michigan 4-H!

Raise your hand to help
Michigan 4-H win $20K for Michigan 4-H'ers!
From April 1 to May 15, 4-H youth, alumni, friends and supporters have the opportunity to help Michigan 4-H win $20,000 as part of the Raise Your Hand campaign. This national competition is designed to raise awareness about the life-changing youth development program, while rewarding states with funds to help grow additional true  leaders.

Organized by National 4-H, the second annual Raise Your Hand 
campaign makes participating easy. Simply 
visit http://www.4-H.org/RaiseYourHand to register and show your support of 4-H. Anyone can raise their hand-4-H'ers, alumni, parents, volunteers and supporters - even if you participated in 2017! Each hand raised (registered) before May 15 counts as a vote and the states with the most hands raised will receive a $20,000, $10,000 or $5,000 award.

Do your part and help grow Michigan 4-H experiences for additional youth in our state! After 
registering, make sure to share this opportunity with other fellow 4-H supporters and ask them to raise their hands as well.
