4-H Youth Day of Service volunteers create gardens on Macomb County Animal Control grounds

On Saturday, April 13th Macomb County 4-H hosted a Youth Day of Service event at the Macomb County Animal Control Grounds. Twenty-seven youth, 4-H members and non-members, and fourteen adults volunteered their Saturday to implement gardens in order to beautify the grounds.
It was a spectacular turnout, and many HANDS made light work. The volunteers removed gravel, hauled topsoil, removed sod, and added edging to the garden beds. Planting will occur in late May/early June! Special thanks to 4-H volunteer and club leader, Dave Galer, for putting his Master Gardener training to good use, as well as supplying many of the tools needed.

Panera Bread and Jimmy Johns of Clinton Township also pitched in by donating food for our hungry volunteers! 4-H members and volunteers should keep an eye out for future volunteer opportunities as it pertains to maintaining the gardens at Macomb County Animal Control.
