Magic can often be explain using science. In this activity we are going to make water from a pan get sucked into an upside down bottle by resting it in the water over a lit candle.
The air inside the bottle expands because the fire warms it up. You might have noticed bubbles escape through the water. When all the oxygen in the air is used up, the flames have no more fuel to burn. The air in the bottle starts to cool down once the flames go out. The cooled air molecules inside the flask have less pressure than those outside. The air outside pushes the water up into the flask until the two pressures balance.
