Hey everyone!

Sara Perla here. I have accepted a new job and will be leaving the USCCB in April. 

The final episode of Made for Love is Love in the Time of COVID. It features Amy Stout (and family), Sarah Engel, Jason Kidd, and Fr. Dan Leary of the Archdiocese of Washington.

I just want to thank everyone who has listened to the podcast over these last 2.5 years, and to thank my supervisor,Tim Roder, for allowing me to produce it. I really had a blast and learned a lot. If you listen to the first episode and then the last few, I think it's pretty obvious that I learned on the job :)

Legal/Policy Updates

Idaho - Having recently passed laws to protect women's sports from male competitors who identify as transgender, and to prevent changing sex on birth certificates, Idaho was swiftly sued in federal court on April  15th and  16th respectively.

New York - Samaritan's Purse, the Christian organization operating a field hospital in Central Park, is being investigated by the City's Commission on Human Rights for its statement of faith required of employees and volunteers upholding authentic marriage and sexuality. In the midst of the crisis, on April 3rd, the State legalized gestational surrogacy  and six "gender non-conforming" candidates for local positions sued the Brooklyn Democratic Party and Board of Elections for having to choose one of two genders in their filings.

Virginia - To cap off a legislative session that had already passed many priorities of the "LGBT" movement, Virginia passed a wide-reaching "nondiscrimination" law, protecting "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" in employment, housing, and public accommodations (including restrooms an the like) - with no accommodations for faith-based facilities and employers.
Local School Boards - Parental resistance succeeded in Flagler County, Florida, where the school board voted to not add "gender identity" to its nondiscrimination policies on April 21st. Unfortunately this is a rare exception to trends in school boards across the country, for example in Evanston, Illinois, where on April 20th the school board advanced their existing pro-"transgender" policies and programs even further.

International - On April 22nd, it was reported that the U.S. Acting Dir. of National Intelligence said he would consider limiting intelligence sharing with countries that have laws he deems "anti-LGBT." Meanwhile, the U.K. appears to be having a moment of resistance to the gender ideology that has advanced so much there. On April 22nd, the Minister for Women and Equalities announced plans to ban "gender transition" surgeries for minors and to protect single-sex spaces threatened under existing laws. On the 29th, an appellate court ruled against a woman who wanted to be named the "father" on her child's birth certificate. Also this month, a court allowed a 13-year-old girl's lawsuit against a county council, which allows males into girls' restrooms and dormitories, to go forward.
