New Forks Road bridge will connect Dain City with the rest of Niagara
A new 124-metre-long bridge over the recreational canal in Dain City will reconnect its residents with the rest of the Rose City and beyond

"It's an important project for our community," said Welland Mayor Frank Campion during a virtual funding announcement Monday morning. "This will enable faster access to highway and other transportation routes."

The announcement - Campion was joined by Niagara Centre MP Vance Badawey and Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff - will see $9.9 million invested in infrastructure in Welland as well as Niagara Falls, West Lincoln and in Norfolk County.

Welland gets funding for new $15-million transit operations facility
City buses in Welland will get a new $15-million home to park in when they aren't on local roads delivering people to their destinations.

The municipality has received approval for federal-provincial funding to move forward with construction of a new transit operations facility. This comes from an announcement Thursday in Niagara with federal, provincial, municipal and regional officials.
Holiday Inn Express construction underway in Welland
Construction is underway in Welland's north end on what will become an 80-room Holiday Inn Express, with walls for the ground floor now partly built.

The project at the northwest of Woodlawn Road and Highway 406 could generate up to $10 million in additional assessed value for the city, create 35 full-time equivalent jobs, and see a total private-sector investment of $14.5 million.
New strip mall and restaurant under construction in north Welland
A commercial plaza under construction on Niagara Street in Welland will be accompanied by a restaurant and possibly a 25-lot subdivision.

Work started earlier this month. City development approvals manager Grant Munday said there will be six retail units next to a separate building for an eatery.

Both projects - between M.T. Bellies restaurant and David Chevrolet Buick GMC - have received building permits and site plan approval. They represent $2 million in construction.

Welland sells third lot in industrial park
Three of six lots in Welland's two-year-old industrial park have been sold, with adeal underway on a fourth, the city's general manager of economic development told city council Tuesday night.

Dan Degazio said the other two lots on the property won't take long to sell as he spoke about the sale of a 1.05-hectare lot to GDC Developments Inc. that was before council for approval.

Habitat Niagara plans townhouses, single-detached home for Welland land
Habitat for Humanity Niagara will save at least $57,000 in development charge payments on land to be used for its next affordable housing build in Welland.

Declared surplus earlier this year, the city-owned, 0.16-hectare site on the southeast corner of First Street and Plymouth Road was sold to Habitat Niagara, an agency that helps build affordable housing and promotes home ownership as a means to break the cycle of poverty.

New community boathouse in Welland to be complete by second week of August
Welland's waterfront will become a destination once a new community boathouse at the Lincoln Street Docks is complete this year, says the city's general manager of economic development, recreation and culture.

Dan Degazio expects site preparation to begin the first week of August and for the nearly complete facility - it's being constructed out of shipping containers - to be on-site and in the ground by the second week.

"We're trying to push it ahead a little bit," said Degazio.
New Welland McDonald's planned to open in fall
Construction is ongoing on a new McDonald's restaurant that will open on Lincoln Street in Welland.

The east side restaurant has a target opening date of autumn 2020, said McDonald's Canada spokesman Ryma Boussoufa.
Patios OK'd for Welland streets, restaurant parking lots
Welland restaurants will be allowed to install temporary patios on their property and city sidewalks and streets.
