Member Monday Spotlight: Hometown Interiors
Hometown Interiors (located in downtown Ila) is owned and operated by Ms. Julie McKay. They joined the Chamber in 2019 at the bronze level.

Julie said, "I joined the Chamber a year ago and they have been supportive....I think all the things happening with the Chamber are going to be great for supporting all the businesses."

Hometown Interiors is your one-stop-shop for antiques, fine china, floral arrangements, painted furniture, and gifts for all occasions (and much more!). Special events such as book signings with local authors, brush & board classes, and wreath making classes are planned for 2020.

Julie opend Hometown Interiors about a year ago. In that short time, she has made an incredible impact on both the business community and downtown Ila in general. Many are aware that she led and or ganized the first-ever Christmas Tree Lighting in Ila in 2019. It was such a huge success that they are looking to expand that event in 2020. With the community's help, Julie is excited to begin other quality of life initiatives such as downtown beautification, a walking club, and food trucks & live music events.

We are #MCProud of members like Hometown Interiors who are going above and beyond to make a positive impact in our community. Stay tuned for MANY exciting announcements from Hometown Interiors and Ila!
Professional Development Tip of the Week: Receiving Feedback
Evaluations and other forms of feedback should be seen as an opportunity for growth. According to Jennifer Porter with the Harvard Business Review, there are six steps to receiving feedback well.

  • Madison County High School/Broad River College and Career Academy students recently competed at the SkillsUSA competition in Clarkesville. We are excited to report that Ethan Fortson placed 2nd in carpentry, Jose Mireles placed 3rd in cabinetry, and Abby Roberts placed 3rd in first-aid/CPR. Audrie Sartain placed in the top 10 in the state in practical nursing. Nolan Chandler, Brandon Epps, Sam Cauthen, and Hunter Crump placed in the top 10 in building teamwork. These students have advanced to State competition in March. Way to go!
  • Congratulations to Brooke Fleming for driving her crossbred gilt to a 2nd place finish at the NJSA.
  • Congrats to Daniel Highfill who brought home Reserve Champion Doe and Grand Champion Registered Doe honors at the Stephens County FFA Blue Ribbon Challenge.
  • Congratulations to Riley Moon with 3rd overall, Emily Strickland with a class winner, and Emily Strickland, Maggie Moon and Chase West with red-ribbon showmanship finishes at the goat show this past weekend in Banks County.
