Madison Messenger - April 2025

Principal Message

Madison Families,

Spring is here and we are ready for the sunshine and warm temperatures! Spring is also a busy time for us at school.

We are starting our online Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) in grades 3-5 in the next few weeks. Students will be assessed in the areas of English Language Arts (ELA), mathematics and, specific to 5th grade, science. We know that the assessments will be rigorous and challenging; however, we believe that our students are well prepared.

The SBA assessments will be administered throughout the month of May. We want to encourage parents/guardians to make appointments outside of their child’s scheduled assessments so we may have students here on time each day for their assessments. This assists students in feeling comfortable taking the assessments with their class and not at a later date as a make-up.

As a reminder, Spring Break will occur this year from April 7th-11th. Let’s hope for warm, sunny weather for the week! This year our school was chosen to participate in the Passport to the Arts by the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture on April 12th. This is a fantastic opportunity for our Madison families as this is a FREE event and transportation will be provided from Madison to the Museum.

Remember, your feedback and thoughts are always welcomed. If you have questions or comments, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Heather Holter, Madison Principal

Clothing/Shoe Donations Needed

If you are spring cleaning and have any gently used clothing or shoes, please consider donating them to Madison. We have the greatest need for shoes of any size or pants/shorts especially kids size 5-10.

Late Students/ Breakfast at School

We have seen an increase in the number of late students each day. When students are late, they miss out on valuable instruction time and morning announcements. Please have your students to school by 8:25AM each day (9:25AM on Mondays). Breakfast is served each day until 10AM, however if your student is wanting to have school breakfast, please try to have them arrive at 8AM (9AM on Mondays) so they can eat with friends in the lunchroom. We appreciate your help.

Toothsavers!

Toothsavers will be at Madison on 04/30. Students who saw Toothsavers this fall will automatically be seen on this day. If you would like to sign up for toothsavers please register online using the link below.

Birthday Parties/ Celebrations

Due to food allergies, health diagnosis, and cultural beliefs please refrain from sending food items to school for your child. If you would like to bring something, please check with the teacher. We recommend nonfood items such as pencils or stickers or a small craft for the kids to do.

If your child wishes to invite students to a party outside of school, please do not have them distribute invitations at school (unless it is for the whole class) as this causes hurt feelings and does not create a sense of belonging. Please work with the classroom teacher on how they would like to support you to invite some students.
