Madison Messenger - August 2025

Principal Message

Dear Families,

Welcome back to the 25-26 school year. We are so looking forward to seeing you back at Madison! If you have not already done so, please use the link (found below) to sign up for your conference. You can also call the office if you need assistance. As usual, this time of year we continue to monitor our enrollment numbers and it is not uncommon that after the first few days of school, we reexamine the class placements to ensure our classes are balanced. If enrollment shifts, sometimes, this may result in changes to your classroom teacher within the first ten days of school. If this occurs, we will let you know of the change and how we will support your student during the transition.  If you have any questions, please send a message though Let’s Talk.

When you come for your conference, please plan to spend a few minutes in our lobby filling out the IRL (In Real Life) survey. Our staff will be available to answer any questions and to help you download the SPS app if you would like. You can also find the steps for downloading the app in this newsletter. The SPS app is how teachers will communicate with families. Downloading and using this app will help ensure you are up to date on all important information for our school and your child's classroom.

Our elementary schedule is Monday 9:25AM-3:00PM and Tuesday-Friday 8:25AM-3:00PM. Breakfast is served each day 30 minutes before school. We encourage students to arrive at 9:00AM on Mondays and 8:00AM Tuesday-Friday to get breakfast at school and be ready to start learning on time. Please do not park on Nebraska before and after school as this is our bus loading zone.

2025-2026 school year is going to be a great year! We look forward to partnering with you in your child's education.

Heather Holter, Madison Principal

Late Students/ Breakfast at School

We have seen an increase in the number of late students each day. When students are late, they miss out on valuable instruction time and morning announcements. Please have your students to school by 8:25AM each day (9:25AM on Mondays). Breakfast is served each day until 10AM, however if your student is wanting to have school breakfast, please try to have them arrive at 8AM (9AM on Mondays) so they can eat with friends in the lunchroom. We appreciate your help.

Picture Day!

Picture Day is Friday 09/19. All students will have their picture taken. If you would like to purchase pictures you can order online at Leosphotography.com using code FAL227785 or watch for the paper order form to come home during the first two weeks of school.

If your student is absent for picture day Re-takes are scheduled for Wednesday November 5th.

Birthday Parties/ Celebrations

Due to food allergies, health diagnosis, and cultural beliefs please refrain from sending food items to school for your child. If you would like to bring something, please check with the teacher. We recommend nonfood items such as pencils or stickers or a small craft for the kids to do.

If your child wishes to invite students to a party outside of school, please do not have them distribute invitations at school (unless it is for the whole class) as this causes hurt feelings and does not create a sense of belonging. Please work with the classroom teacher on how they would like to support you to invite some students.

Reminders

Please do not park on Nebraska as this is our bus loading zone only from 8AM-4PM.

Please do not send your child to school with toys or items that do not belong at school. We have had a large number of toys, etc turned into lost and found. Please leave these items at home unless the teacher has given permission to have these items at school.

Students will go outside each day for recess unless it is pouring rain or below 20 degrees. Please help your student dress for the weather. Labeling coats and outerwear will help us reunite your child with any lost items.

Consider sending your child to school with a change of clothes (to keep in their backpack or locker) in case of an emergency.

Each month our school practices emergency drills like fire drills, earthquake, or "shelter in place". We practice so that all students and staff know what to do in an emergency.

School Lunch Menu

All students get free breakfast and lunch each day! Check out Spokane Public Schools lunch menu below!

The September menu is not available yet, but will be posted soon. Check the link for more information about our Meals and to view the menu soon.
