Mayor Bob Courtney recently hosted his 2025 State of the City Address. Instead of a traditional speech this year, he sat down with Trevor Crafton for an open conversation about Madison's progress, accomplishments, and exciting opportunities for the future.
Thank you to everyone who joined us! If you missed the address, you can watch it by clicking the video above.

February brought more snow and rising water levels along the riverfront, keeping our street department busy. As the water receded, it left behind dirt and debris along Vaughn Drive. Last month, our team tackled a riverfront cleanup to restore the area and keep our scenic riverfront looking its best.
In addition to those efforts, our street department has been spreading some festive cheer downtown, swapping out the hearts on our lampposts for bright green shamrocks in honor of St. Patrick’s Day! But there's an extra bit of luck hidden among them—somewhere on one of the lampposts, a four-leaf clover is waiting to be found!
If you spot this special shamrock, stop by City Hall (101 W Main Street) and share its secret location with us. Every child who finds it and reports the correct location will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win day passes to Crystal Beach Aquatic Park!
You have until March 17 to join in on this fun contest—happy hunting!

Honoring Black History Month
February is Black History Month, a time to celebrate African American culture, achievements, and progress.
Madison has a deep connection to Black history. The city was a key hub of the Underground Railroad and is home to Broadway School, Indiana's first commissioned school for Black students. Jefferson County is also home to Eleutherian College, the first institution in Indiana to admit people of color. Many other churches and organizations in the Black American community, such as Broadway Baptist Church, St. Stephen AME Church, and Eureka Lodge, have positively impacted our community.
To honor this legacy, Sue Livers joined Mayor Bob Courtney and City Council members for a special Black History Month proclamation.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support scouting in our community and for inviting the mayor to speak.

Collaborating with State Leaders
We recently had the honor of hosting Indiana Secretary of State, Diego Morales, in Madison. After enjoying a meal at Hinkle's, Mayor Bob Courtney and city staff engaged in meaningful discussions with Secretary Morales about initiatives that showcase our city statewide and internationally.
Mayor Courtney remains committed to working with leaders at all levels of government to advance opportunities and enhance the quality of life in Madison. We appreciate Secretary Morales for taking the time to visit and look forward to continued collaboration.

Serving Our Community for 100 Years! | |
|
February 27 marked 100 years since Brown Gym first opened its doors. What began as an idea without funding, became reality thanks to a telegram from J. Graham Brown of Louisville, whose generosity forever shaped Madison's community.
As The Madisonian noted, the best way to honor his gift was to ensure the gym remained a place for community betterment—a mission it has fulfilled for a century. From the 1950 Madison Cubs' state title, to volleyball, roller skating, pickleball, and more; Brown Gym has stood the test of time, continuing to serve and inspire generations.
Check out these historic photos and celebrate a century of memories with us!
