DOUBLE SALE WEEK!!

View as Webpage

Dear Steve,

DID YOU KNOW that Yerba Mate tea, the traditional South American beverage that we love recommending, has recently been flaunted by celebrities as an alternative to GLP-1 weight loss drugs?

Taking it a step further, a new study from Frontiers in Nutrition lists Yerba mate's metabolic effects across eight pathways: gut microbiota and hormonal signaling, hypothalamic appetite regulation, oxidative stress reduction, inflammation reduction, lipid metabolism reprogramming, glycemic regulation, mitochondrial efficiency, and neurotransmitter modulation.

Specifically, Yerba mate enhances GLP-1 secretion, restores leptin sensitivity via inflammation reduction, and boosts mitochondrial efficiency, yielding lower HbA1c, triglycerides, and adiposity (fat mass).

Infection Section

Year-round infection is the new normal. We are exposed to many endemic viruses including SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), influenza (flu), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), norovirus (stomach flu), adenovirus (common cold), monkeypox, and four other coronaviruses (common cold), among others. Support your immune system with our Free Prevent and Fight Infection 2.0 Protocol here.

Warning: Counterfeit, Adulterated Supplements Online

On the internet, especially at Amazon, there is an epidemic of counterfeit, adulterated, and purposely mislabeled dietary supplements. A recent analysis of methyl vitamin B12 supplements sold on Amazon found only 56% met label claim. A man was arrested for selling counterfeit Pure Encapsulations products. A study from JAMA Network Open found that half of immune products analyzed from Amazon had labels that did not match the contents. Know your supplier!

Have a happy, healthy day! Steve and Bonnie Minsky

40th Anniversary Timeline & Tribute

It started out with humble beginnings. When Bonnie finished her masters degrees, the general public's opinion of nutrition was tepid to say the least. Some people close to her openly laughed at the preposterous notion that this would be her career. No matter. In 1985, Nutritional Concepts was incorporated.

Bonnie's passion and fighting spirit kept things afloat as clients started to see improvement in their health. It was just a matter of time before they would tell all of their family, friends, and coworkers.

Soon after, Bonnie met Lilo Schuster, who was fresh out of chiropractic school. She and Bonnie worked together at a wellness center called Body Therapeutics. As they built up their practices, they decided to join forces and branch out on their own. Bonnie and Lilo settled on Professional Plaza in Northbrook, where we've been ever since.

In between seeing clients at her now bustling practice, Bonnie helped write a bill to give nutritionists the same rights as dietitians. After incessantly lobbying the Illinois state assembly, the bill passed.

Bonnie's daughter Carolyn Martinelli joined the team as office manager/consultant and stayed over 20 years providing incredible service with her bubbly personality.

Steve Minsky came aboard as Bonnie's business partner in 1998. He implemented rigorous quality controls for the supplement dispensary, started the email newsletter you are reading right now, and ran every aspect of the business.

One of our proudest moments was helping you navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. We never closed, worked tirelessly to source all of your supplements even though so many were in short supply. Most importantly, we created a COVID prevention protocol early on to help protect your immune systems.

Two and a half years ago, Steve joined Bonnie and Lilo as the third health professional in the practice after getting his masters degree in Health and Wellness.

We would be remiss if we did not pay homage to all of the wonderful staff that has blessed us over the years - Patty, Carolyn, Lori, Sharron, among others, and now Cindy, Diana, and Marisa. They're rock stars.

We're so proud that we've been able to bring you wellness for 40 years, but we certainly could not have done it without your unwavering support. Now that we are seeing third-generation clients, it is a testament to you for taking our advice, putting into practice, and paying it forward.

We've always been a word-of-mouth practice. This has allowed us to put all of our energy into our mission, which is, and will always be, to serve your individual wellness needs to the best of our ability.

For us to reach another 40 years, spread the wellness!

Magnanimous and Magnficent Magnesium

Steve: Magnesium is the most critical mineral required for electrical stability of every cell in the body. There are some experts that believe every known illness is associated with magnesium if deficiency exists. It's hard to argue with them when you read further.

We have loved supplemental magnesium for decades. It's so amazing to see the rest of the world discover it. Here's just a smattering of magnesium research over the last few months.

Cognitive Decline

To prevent cognitive decline, elderly should get recommended amounts of magnesium from diet and supplements, according to a study from Frontiers in Nutrition.

Depression

According to a study from Nutrition Reviews, individuals with the highest magnesium intake had a 34% lower risk of depression, compared with those with the lowest magnesium intake. Moreover, each 100 mg per day increment to about 400 mg was associated with a 7% reduced risk of depression.

Liver

Magnesium deficiency facilitates the advent and progression of various liver diseases in a vicious cycle, according to a study from Journal of the American Nutrition Association. The authors report that magnesium supplementation slows the progression of liver disease and decreases morbidity.

Cholesterol

In subjects taking magnesium versus those who were not, the magnesium group showed significantly increased HDL-C levels, as reported in Nutrition Journal.

Kidney Disease

A Frontiers in Nutrition study found that older subjects with low magnesium intake had low estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), increasing the risk of kidney disease.

Genetics

Low magnesium intake either on its own or in the presence of high homocysteine increases DNA damage, as reported in European Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Urinary Incontinence

According to a study from Frontiers in Nutrition, magnesium deficiency is an important risk factor for the prevalence and mortality rates of urinary incontinence.

In conclusion, magnesium is magnanimous and magnificent!
