DID YOU KNOW that magnesium levels have a significant effect on the risk of metabolic syndrome? Metabolic syndrome (MetS) qualifies if you have at least three of these five issues: abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high serum triglycerides, and low serum high-density lipoprotein.

According to results of a study from Nutrition Review, those with the highest magnesium concentration had 46% significantly lower odds of MetS. Each 0.5-mg/dL increase in the level of circulating magnesium was related to an 11% reduction in the odds of contracting MetS.

Steve: It seems that every six months or so, I provide you with a new round of magnesium's greatest hits. This time around is no different.

Human Papillomavirus Infection (HPV)

Magnesium intake has a protective effect against HPV infection, as reported in Frontiers in Nutrition. The authors suggests rationally increasing magnesium intake serves as an effective preventive measure against HPV infection.

High Blood Pressure

A study from Nutrition Reviews reports that each 0.5 mg/dL increase in circulating magnesium concentration capped at 3.5 mg/dL was linked to 7% decreased odds of hypertension.

Diabetic Neuropathy

Total magnesium intake of at least 345 mg/day was associated with a lower risk of diabetic neuropathy, according to Frontiers in Nutrition.

Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

According to a study from Frontiers in Nutrition, magnesium deficiency is significantly associated with both increased prevalence of ED and greater all-cause mortality in men with ED.
