Weekly Message from Mr. Nies

Happy Friday Magee Families:

Last week, I shared information with you about the play-based learning professional development that our staff participated in and will be continuing to participate in throughout the school year. This professional learning is an action step in our academic achievement goal for this school year.

This week, we held our first all school assembly. These will take place monthly. In our assembly, we set a goal for the month of September around the Habit of Mind - Managing our Impulsivity. Each month we will set an all school goal around a different Habit of Mind, to support us to reach our school goal for citizenship and personal development.  This month our goal as a school is:

I can stop and think before I act to . . .

4K - 2nd Grade

3rd - 5th Grade

. . . stand up for others and treat people respectfully.

. . . stand up for others and treat people respectfully.

. . . listen and respond to others constructively.

. . . listen and respond to others constructively.

. . . see other sides to a topic and respect different ways of thinking.

. . . try to understand other points of view and respect differences of opinion.

In our all school assembly, we talked about how stopping and thinking before we act allows us to take our time, remain calm, and it allows us to be thoughtful, deliberate, and respectful to ourselves and our peers.

Managing our Impulsivity is something we are all continuing to grow in throughout all of the areas within our school. We will have an extra focus in the depot during lunch time. Learners are working to earn 5 points per lunch period through the month of September. By the end of September, if a lunch period has:

  • 40 - 50 points earned - learners will earn a read aloud during lunch with a special guest reader.
  • 51 - 60 points earned - learners will earn extra recess time during their lunch/recess time.
  • 61 points or more earned - learners will vote for a movie they can watch during their lunch period.

Everyone is really excited about the movie during their lunch periods! I will update you with their progress and let you know what each lunch period earned to reach their goal.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me or schedule a time to meet with me: Click Here to Schedule a Meeting with MeHave an amazing weekend!
