Safety Tips From KM SRO Deputy Soneberg
Deputy Jamie Soneberg is KMSD's School Resource Officer. His tips to preventing vehicle-related thefts:
"There have been several vehicle thefts and break-ins going on in the county over the past few days. I want to remind everyone to make sure your vehicles are locked during the overnight hours and the keys are in your home. Please make sure all valuables are secure and not left in sight in your vehicles."
Deputy Soneberg also mentioned how your vehicles can be a gateway to a larger theft: valuables in your home.
"Criminals are also targeting garage door openers that are left in cars," he cautioned. "These people are breaking into cars, taking the openers, then returning at a later date to gain access to homes. This is happening in several areas in Southeast Wisconsin and especially in Racine County in the Waterford and Rochester areas. Please be alert to your homes and vehicles. Leave lights on whenever possible and report anything suspicious."
