Hello Magee Families:
There are a few things that I wanted to send as reminders and updates for you all. As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
Valentine's Day at Magee
As we look forward to this special day in February, we are going to celebrate Valentine's Day at Magee as a day of kindness. In the 18th Century, Valentine's Day became a common day, amongst all, where people sent their families, friends, and others handwritten notes of appreciation, kindness, and love to one another. By the early 1900s is when tradition of printed cards started to become popular to hand out instead of handwritten notes.
Here are a few things to look forward to at Magee on February 14th:
- The PTO will continue their hearts on doors activity as in years past. (This PTO sponsored activity allows adults, in each students' family, to decorate and share love and kindness on a red heart with a message to their student(s). This red heart is returned to school and will be displayed on the classroom door. Please look for them next week in your child's Friday folder.)
- You will receive "kindness grams" and your child(ren) can write a kindness gram to each peer in their classroom. This allows each of us to write something kind about each other. The filled out kindness grams will be handed out in class on Valentine's Day. This is a great writing activity for our students to do at home. You will receive enough kindness grams for each student in the classroom and for the teacher. The office will have extra kindness grams if you need more. (If you already purchased specific valentines cards, that is alright. I understand I may be a bit behind with sending this out to all.)
-
Please remember in our Student Handbook it states that no treats (store bought or hand made) are to be handed out for birthdays. This will fall into place for parties as well. Please see the handbook at this LINK for further clarification.
- There will not be specific Valentine's Day parties taking place in the classroom. Students will celebrate each other's kindness as well as any learning goals they have reached academically. February 14th is a Celebration of Kindness Day at Magee!
Morning Drop-Off Reminder
Every morning, a staff member is at the back door of Magee allowing kids in. There are some days, where a staff member is not out back. If that is the case, please pull up to the northwest corner of the back driveway where you will see two staff members helping students out of the cars. This is when your child can get out of your vehicle. Thank you for keeping the arrival procedure safe for all. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Spring Conferences
In the month of February, students will share celebrations of learning with you. Some examples of how this may be shared with you are through seesaw or as a video. Teachers will work on a way that fits each student best. This is a student-led conference sharing with you a celebration of their learning. Your child's classroom teacher may reach out to you for an additional parent/teacher conference if they see the need. If that is the case, teachers will be in communication with you to set-up a time to meet virtually for the Parent/Teacher Conference.
If you do not hear from your teacher, but still want to schedule a time to meet with them, please reach out to schedule a time to meet. Keep in mind that our special education, music, art, physical education, and guidance staff are happy to have a conference with you as well. Feel free to reach out to them to check in on your child's progress in those content areas.
Open Enrollment
At Magee Elementary School, we welcome our open enrollment families with open arms. Over 30% of our families open enroll to attend Magee Elementary School. That speaks so highly of our teachers, our families, and our culture we have built. Please note that if you are open enrolled at Magee or know of anyone who would like to open enroll, open enrollment begins on February 7th, 2022 with the application period closing at 4:00 PM on April 29th, 2022. For more information about full-time open enrollment, please visit this Wisconsin Department of Public Education information sheet: 2022-2023 Full Time Open Enrollment Regular Application Period for Wisconsin Public Schools.
As the cold air blows in and the snow starts to fall or melt or stay away . . .
Please remember to send your child(ren) to school with their jacket, hat, gloves, snow pants, and boots. If students do not have their full gear, they can not play in the snow OR on those cold winter days they will not stay warm without the correct gear. We go outside if the temperature is 1 degree or above. We implement indoor recess when the temperature reads 0 or below. Keep in mind, that we do have winter gear in the health room, but there is not enough for the number of students that are currently forgetting to bring their winter gear to school. We have a lot of great spaces to play and we want to make sure that all students get to utilize all of the outdoor spaces during their recess.
5th Grade Families
This week, the Middle School music staff came to visit our 5th graders. They discussed their options for next school year such as: band, orchestra, and choir. Our 5th graders will need to choose one of the listed choices when they begin scheduling their 6th grade classes. Please see the information from Middle School Principal Cominsky. You can find this under the Middle School Information Night section of this newsletter.

A Message from our Phy. Ed. Teacher Mr. Staver

Hello Magee Families,
We are so excited to be partnering with the American Heart Association for our Kids Heart Challenge event. During the week of January 31st - February 18th, our students will be working on their jump roping skills and developing their overall fitness by increasing their heart rate when it is their week for PE class..
As part of the event, you can raise funds for the American Heart Association (through February 18th). Below I have placed the website where more information and donations can be recorded. This year donations will only be through the online process. If you need any assistance please feel free to ask.
There are many “thank you gifts” that your child and class may be interested in, but our main goal is to raise funds to help improve heart research and help those in need. This year, classes will be working together to raise donations and all students in class will receive the same “thank you gift”.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Thank you for making Magee a special place!

Greetings 5th Grade Families,
Some important events are happening in the coming weeks:
The week of January 24th, middle school counselors will be visiting with 5th graders about the choices they have for their middle school learning. They will bring along KMMS students to help, including graduates from the elementary school visited.
Please join us for one of our two Middle School Information Nights in early February. Choose the date that works for you, as each night will feature the same information:
Monday, February 7th @ 5:30 p.m. OR Wednesday, February 9th @ 5:30 p.m.
The Information Night will include a presentation in our gym at 5:30 about learning environments and course options for our students. After the presentation, you will have time to connect with teachers in the 6th Grade or Create to ask them about their work with 6th graders. The night will conclude by 7 p.m.
In addition to these evening opportunities, there will be three optional days available for you to visit the middle school during the school day (with or without your child). These dates are Friday, February 10th, Tuesday, February 14th, or Wednesday, February 16th. These sessions will begin at 9:00 a.m. Please RSVP to attend one of those sessions during the Information Night, or email Middle School Office Assistant Lisa Peterson at [email protected] to register.
KM Connect Virtual Academy for Communication & Collaboration is a new school choice for your incoming 6th grader. For information about KM Connect:
Meet KM Connect representatives at both KMMS Information Nights (2/7, 9)
