Hello Magee Families:
I have updates for you below. I appreciate you taking the time carefully reviewing those updates. Enjoy your weekend!
Valentine's Day at Magee
As we look forward to this special day in February, we are going to celebrate Valentine's Day at Magee as a day of kindness. In the 18th Century, Valentine's Day became a common day, amongst all, where people sent their families, friends, and others handwritten notes of appreciation, kindness, and love to one another. By the early 1900s is when the tradition of printed cards started to become popular to hand out instead of handwritten notes.
Here are a few things to look forward to at Magee on February 14th:
- Kindness Grams have been sent home today in Friday folders. Please look for them.
- The Kindness Grams are color coded by grade-level If you have a student in 2/3, you will have both green and yellow Kindness Grams.
- On February 14th, we will have a spirit day of dressing up in our grade-level colors.
- 4K - White, 5K - Red, 1st - Orange, 2nd - Yellow, 3rd - Green, 4th - Blue, and 5th - Purple
- If you need extra Kindness Grams, please let your child(ren)'s teacher know as they will have extras available.
- Please work with your child(ren) to fill out the grams.
-
4K - K: To help our youngest learners write their name and their friends' names, help them by stating to them the individual letters to write. If there is difficulty with that, use a yellow marker to write the name and have your learner trace it. When it comes to writing a message to their peers, our youngest learners start their journey in writing by drawing pictures, telling an adult what those pictures mean, and then when they are ready start to write the words as how they sound to them. So the word tell could be written like "tel" or the word friend may be spelled as "frend". Encourage them to draw a picture or try to write a message to their classmates.
-
1st-5th grade: Their Kindness Grams have lines. They can work on writing messages to each of their classmates.
- Please feel free to decorate the kindness grams as well.
- Class lists are accessible in the Magee PTO Directory.
-
Please remember in our Student Handbook it states that no treats (store bought or hand made) are to be handed out for birthdays. This will fall into place for all in school special events. Please see the handbook at this LINK for further clarification.
- There will not be specific Valentine's Day parties taking place in the classroom. Students will celebrate each other's kindness as well as any learning goals they have reached academically. February 14th is a Celebration of Kindness Day at Magee!
Upcoming PTO Movie Night
We are excited to be hosting another PTO Movie Night in February. Our learners voted for the next movie and it will be Sing 2! We learned a lot from our last movie night. Due to certain things that took place during the last movie night, it is important to keep the following in mind:
- Families must sit together and parents are responsible for monitoring their child's behavior anywhere in the building.
- It is movie night. We will be treating our gymnasium like a movie theatre. This means we will follow the norms of a movie theatre. There is no playing during the movie. (gym balls, rock climbing wall, and other items will be shown as off limits during the movie). If this becomes a disruptive issue, there will be a reminder and if it continues, the family may be asked to leave.
- There will not be an intermission, so feel free to utilize the restrooms and concessions at any time.
Report Cards
You will have access to your child(ren)'s report cards in Infinite Campus starting January 31st, 2022. Please CLICK HERE to read over the directions on how to access the report cards.
Spring Conferences
In the month of February, students will share celebrations of learning with you. Some examples of how this may be shared with you are through seesaw or as a video. Teachers will work on a way that fits each student best. This is a student-led conference sharing with you a celebration of their learning. Your child's classroom teacher may reach out to you for an additional parent/teacher conference if they see the need. If that is the case, teachers will be in communication with you to set-up a time to meet virtually for the Parent/Teacher Conference.
If you do not hear from your teacher, but still want to schedule a time to meet with them, please reach out to schedule a time to meet. Keep in mind that our special education, music, art, physical education, and guidance staff are happy to have a conference with you as well. Feel free to reach out to them to check in on your child's progress in those content areas.
Take Care & Be Well:
Justin S. Nies and the Magee Elementary School Team
The saying "It takes a village", is a shortened version of the saying "It takes a village to raise a child". It means an entire community of people interacting with one another to support our community of children so they can learn and grow in a safe and healthy environment.

A Message from our Phy. Ed. Teacher Mr. Staver

Hello Magee Families,
We are so excited to be partnering with the American Heart Association for our Kids Heart Challenge event. During the week of January 31st - February 18th, our students will be working on their jump roping skills and developing their overall fitness by increasing their heart rate when it is their week for PE class..
As part of the event, you can raise funds for the American Heart Association (through February 18th). Below I have placed the website where more information and donations can be recorded. This year donations will only be through the online process. If you need any assistance please feel free to ask.
There are many “thank you gifts” that your child and class may be interested in, but our main goal is to raise funds to help improve heart research and help those in need. This year, classes will be working together to raise donations and all students in class will receive the same “thank you gift”.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at staverj@kmsd.edu. Thank you for making Magee a special place!
