"We Are Magee! Proud as can be!"
  • "We Are Magee" pride is being shown throughout the United States.
  • If you are taking a vacation or venturing to a different place, show your "We Are Magee" pride. I will upload the pictures to our weekly newsletters.

A Message from Principal Nies
02/04/2022

Hello, Magee Families.

I am writing to give you some great news to end the week: our trip to the Mackenzie Environmental Center in Poynette will take place as originally scheduled. As you know, the omicron variant caused COVID numbers to spike and Magee was forced to go virtual for several days in January due to a number of factors. We initially thought it best to err on the side of caution with regard to overnight trips - for the safety of all participants. As we have become accustomed to, numbers and protocols can evolve quickly, sometimes week to week. With COVID numbers severely waning, we are happy to provide this cherished educational experience.

We know there’s chatter about different opportunities at different schools within the district and what Magee plans compared to the others. While we appreciate the reasons for comparison, we also need to keep in mind all KM schools have their own timelines and circumstances, so oftentimes the comparison is not apples to apples.

Currently, I am working with the 4th and 5th grade teams to swiftly get the logistics and plans together for our trip to the Mackenzie Environmental Center in Poynette. Communication will be sent out as we start finalizing what the trip will look like.

As an admin team, we support making these decisions together with the top priority being the safety of students, staff, and parents/guardians. We are thrilled to be able to offer our students this important learning experience this year and many years to come.

Sincerely,

Mr. Justin S. Nies (Principal) and Mr. Stephen Plum (Superintendent)
Valentine's Day is Kindness Day
Pictures of the decorations our students, teachers, and the PTO are putting up in preparation for Kindness Day!
As we look forward to this special day in February, we are going to celebrate Valentine's Day as a day of kindness. In the 18th Century, Valentine's Day became a common day, amongst all, where people sent their families, friends, and others handwritten notes of appreciation, kindness, and love to one another. By the early 1900s is when the tradition of printed cards started to become popular to hand out instead of handwritten notes.

Here are a few things students get to look forward to at Magee on February 14th:

  • During the afternoon of February 14th, classrooms will have celebrations. Teachers are planning what this afternoon of learning and celebrating will look like.
  • Reminder: Treat Policy
  • Visitors and volunteers are always welcome to Magee any day of the week, not just on holidays. Please feel free to reach out to your child(ren)'s teacher to see if they need support or a volunteer for the afternoon of the 14th or in fact, any day of the week. We always welcome volunteers and visitors.
  • Classes have been or will be working on decorating boxes for Kindness Grams to be put inside.
  • If you need extra Kindness Grams, please let your child(ren)'s teacher know as they will have extras available.
Spring Conferences
In the month of February, students will share celebrations of learning with you. Some examples of how this may be shared with you are through seesaw or as a video. Teachers will work on a way that fits each student best. This is a student-led conference sharing with you a celebration of their learning. Your child's classroom teacher may reach out to you for an additional parent/teacher conference if they see the need. If that is the case, teachers will be in communication with you to set-up a time to meet virtually for the Parent/Teacher Conference on February 18th or the 21st.

If you do not hear from your teacher, but still want to schedule a time to meet with them, please reach out to schedule a time to meet. Keep in mind that our special education, music, art, physical education, and guidance staff are happy to have a conference with you as well. Feel free to reach out to them to check in on your child's progress in those content areas.
2021-2022 Yearbook Cover has been chosen!
We have a winner!
An ongoing tradition at Magee Elementary is that our 5th graders work collaboratively to create, organize, and publish our annual yearbook. The 5th Grade Yearbook Committee is being led by parent volunteers, Mrs. Amanda Keeling and Mrs. Sandy Aushwitz.

Everyone at Magee was able to vote for the cover they wanted the yearbook to have this year. The yearbook design winner is Alyssa N! Congratulations Alyssa!

Upcoming PTO Movie Night
Upcoming PTO Movie Night
We are excited to be hosting another PTO Movie Night in February. Our learners voted for the next movie and it will be Sing 2! We learned a lot from our last movie night. Due to certain things that took place during the last movie night, it is important to keep the following in mind:
  • Families must sit together and parents are responsible for monitoring their child's behavior anywhere in the building.
  • It is movie night. We will be treating our gymnasium like a movie theatre. This means we will follow the norms of a movie theatre. There is no playing during the movie. (gym balls, rock climbing wall, and other items will be shown as off limits during the movie). If this becomes a disruptive issue, there will be a reminder and if it continues, the family may be asked to leave.
  • There will not be an intermission, so feel free to utilize the restrooms and concessions at any time.

A Message from our Phy. Ed. Teacher Mr. Staver
Hello Magee Families,

We are so excited to be partnering with the American Heart Association for our Kids Heart Challenge event. During the week of January 31st - February 18th, our students will be working on their jump roping skills and developing their overall fitness by increasing their heart rate when it is their week for PE class..
As part of the event, you can raise funds for the American Heart Association (through February 18th). Below I have placed the website where more information and donations can be recorded. This year donations will only be through the online process. If you need any assistance please feel free to ask.
There are many “thank you gifts” that your child and class may be interested in, but our main goal is to raise funds to help improve heart research and help those in need. This year, classes will be working together to raise donations and all students in class will receive the same “thank you gift”.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Thank you for making Magee a special place!
