A Message from Principal Nies
02/18/2022

Hello, Magee Families:
In the month of February our students are extending their learning and practice around the Habit of Mind called "striving for accuracy". During our live morning announcements, we have discussions about what this means, what it looks like at school, and how striving for accuracy helps us reach our goals. If you do not recall, the habits of mind are habits we teach and practice at the elementary level to prepare our learners for the Graduate Profile at the high school level. Ask your child(ren) how they are striving for accuracy. (Please see the image below for more information about our Habits of Mind).

In my on-going adult practice of striving for accuracy, I am working on striving for accuracy with offering further clarity to you around traditions and celebrations at Magee. There have been a lot of questions around this. Along with that, there is inaccurate information being shared on social media platforms. Please know I have and will request in-person meetings when I notice there needs to be a mutual understanding. I believe meeting with the source is the best platform of communication. I am sure many of you agree.

Last week, I mentioned a document I have created which lists the celebrations and traditions that have been done in the past and present. I am sharing that document with you today. It has three columns: 1) New traditions or celebrations this year, 2) Past celebrations that have taken place and will be taking place at Magee, and 3) Any changes that were made to the past traditions. If you believe that I missed something, please let me know. Also remember that in May of 2021, the Magee PTO sent out a survey with the list of events they sponsor. Due to the results of the survey and the response of the community, the PTO made decisions on not rescheduling certain events due to a lack of community interest in attending and/or a lack of volunteers to run the event(s). You can see their sponsored schedule of events at the Magee PTO website.

I am glad that my message about coming in to visit and volunteer was a message that was wanted and well received. A neighborhood school is the epicenter of the community and I truly do believe that a school only functions at it's highest potential when we are all working together to provide academic rich opportunities as well as fun traditions centered around our students. Please continue to reach out to your student's classroom teacher for volunteer opportunities.

If you have any questions, misunderstandings, or concerns. I have a link you can access to set-up a time to meet with me. Please feel free to schedule a time here - Click Here to Schedule a Meeting with Me

Take Care and Be Well,
