A Brief Message from Mr. Nies
Happy Friday Magee Families:

There are a lot of exciting things to explore below, but before you scroll down, please continue to read this message.

The television show 10ThirtySix on Milwaukee Public Television will be filming at Magee on Wednesday, April 6th. You are probably wondering why? They will be airing a segment on their show about Teacher Appreciation in the month of May. We have been asked, at Magee, if a few of our teachers would be part of the segment, along with students who were positively impacted by those teachers throughout their time at Magee. The show 10ThirtySix will be interviewing Mr. Suhr, Mrs. Coss, and Mrs. Pendy. These staff members were chosen because our 4th and 5th graders submitted essays about a teacher or staff member who has had a positive impact on their educational journey. Mr. Suhr, Mrs. Coss, and Mrs. Pendy had a large number of essays written about them! We are excited to welcome the Producers of 10ThirtySix to Magee Elementary School. Please note that if you have a child in Mr. Suhr's class or in Mrs. Coss' class there will be video taken within the classroom while the teachers are teaching. If you do not want your child to be on the video, email me before the end of the day on Monday, April 4th so I can prepare the MPTV production team. I will also make sure that we honor parents who requested their child(ren) to opt out of promotional videos and photos during registration. When I have details about when the segment will air, I will share with all of our Magee families. If it aligns properly, I may plan a viewing party to take place at Magee.

Do not forget that Monday is a day off for students. Monday, April 4th is a professional learning day for district staff.

Also on Monday, April 4th, you will be receiving an email, from the district through SurveyMonkey, with a link to the annual Parent, Staff, and Student Engagement Survey that the District does each Spring. Students will complete their engagement survey in class. We ask that as parents you complete your survey before April 14th, 2022 when the survey closes. Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey. Myself and the leadership team at Magee use the responses in our annual goal setting.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy the wonderful Luck O' Magee video created by our own Magee parent, Emmy Frey. We appreciate all of her time and creativity it takes to create such wonderful videos for our community!

One School, One Book is Back!
Great News! One School, One Book is coming back to Magee! Our generous PTO has purchased a book for each family and staff member. We will be revealing the book’s title at the end of the day on Wednesday, April 13th. Books and the reading calendar will go home that day. For those of you that are new to Magee, One School, One Book is a community shared reading event. We ask that you read this book aloud at home with your family and all of us here at Magee will be reading the book as well. Classrooms will be engaging the students in the book along the way and there will be trivia questions weekly on announcements.

This is a novel program in which children of all grade levels will all be listening to the same book. Strange or daring as that may seem, it actually makes sound educational sense. Reading professionals recommend reading material out loud that is beyond a child’s own reading level. We also believe that you can and should continue reading chapter books with your older children, even when they are able to read by themselves. We have selected a title that can be followed and understood and enjoyed by younger students, but will still captivate and stimulate older children.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Kim Jones, Library Media Specialist or Laurel Hopkins, Instructional Coach.
