Happy Friday Magee Families:
Happy Earth Day to you. It seems as though we needed some rain. As Mr. Suhr said today, "We will let the Earth enjoy the rain. Remember Earth Day, every day!"
We had some fun yesterday with 2nd and 3rd graders doing a special Earth Day Scavenger Hunt (images below). We also had our 5th grade Big Buddies partner with their kindergarten friends to do a special scavenger hunt as well (images above).
You will soon be seeing some new additions to our school grounds. We will be setting up a few things behind the red playground, close to the tree line:
1) A sand box with a roof and sliding covers to protect the sand. (Thank you Dopierala Family for building this sand box for Magee!)
2) A stage that K5 learners built out of tree stumps and wood.
3) A mud kitchen to continue to develop creativity, fine motor skills, exploration, and social skills. (Thank you Byrne Family and K5 families for getting this started!)
4) I am working with a Magee family to transport large tree logs from the prairie up to the grass behind the red playground. Those logs will turn into a Natural playground where students will be able to build their fine and gross motor skills as well as increase their physical activity by moving the large logs and creating balance beams, seesaws, forts, etc. It is absolutely amazing what kids build with natural playgrounds. I am excited to share with you what is created by our creative learners.
One last note. The Milwaukee Public Television segment including Magee will air on Thursday, May 5th at 7 PM. This will air on Milwaukee PBS Channel 10 on the show 10Thirtysix.
