Happy Friday Magee Families:
The image above shows our Magee participants in the program - Girls on the Run. We are celebrating their hard work, because last week they completed their very first 5K (3.1 mile) run. Last Friday, they ran a 5K course around American Family Field. We are proud of their hard work and dedication to training and running 3.1 miles! Thank you to our parent volunteers who took the time after school in rain, snow, and all of the amazing Wisconsin weather elements to prepare these girls for their run!
I have made you aware about sectioning for the 2022-2023 school year. Now I am able to start sharing with you staffing updates. We will be celebrating the following staff members at our end of the school year all school assembly on June 8th: Mrs. Kimberly Woyhan, Mrs. Jessica Coss, Mrs. Tina Kastner, Mrs. Jane Wepfer, and Mrs. Susie Schuler. They may be moving on to a new chapter in their lives but will never be forgotten. They will be leaving an extraordinarily positive impact on many learners and families and will forever hold a place here at Magee.
A new update for you is that Mrs. Rachel Weiss has agreed to take on a new adventure - to move from five-year-old kindergarten to four-year-old kindergarten at Magee. Next school year will be our first year offering two sections of 4K at Magee. Mrs. Weiss is excited to teach four-year-old kindergarten and to help us further develop the 4K Forest program. Mrs. Dopierala will continue to provide support to students and staff in the 4K classroom. We are excited to have Mrs. Weiss use her knowledge and expertise in early childhood education to teach our youngest learners and to further offer her leadership in outdoor learning.
This week, we had the pleasure of meeting six final candidates for our first grade and kindergarten openings. We had a candidate pool of 71 applicants! We went through an intensive process of reviewing all applications and identifying the six final candidates. On Wednesday, a team of nine Magee staff members performed in-person interviews and facilitated writing prompts for our candidates to participate in. We were wowed by each candidate we interviewed and their background in personalized learning, student goal-setting, literacy, and commitment to education, families, and students. More to come after I complete the process with HR and the school board!
If you missed the Milwaukee Public Television segment on Magee Elementary, please visit the video below. Please know that the show 10Thirtysix has been running a series called "Teachers in Crisis". The show had segments about that up until they aired our segment. I mention this because the image you see before starting the video says "Teachers in Crisis" and can be misleading about our featured segment.
Please review the PTO section as we are looking for Color Run volunteers on May 20th. We have two volunteers signed-up and we need a total of ten to make sure we can run the event. Also review the upcoming key dates. All key dates for the remainder of the school year have been added - mark your calendars!
