Dear Friends of Build A Miracle,

It’s hard to describe the feeling when you walk into the Community Center and see all the people working together and supporting each other with excitement in their faces.

The word that came to me today was

magical.

It was magical to see 600 children at summer school last month - laughing and playing, learning new things and having joyful life moments.

Families on the waiting list are already seeing magic as they earn hours toward their homes!

It was magical to see 70 of the 220 students on college or high school scholarships teaching classes, helping to line up the kids and get them from place to place.

And what other way is there than magical to describe the 15 College and

37 High School graduates who were celebrated this summer?

It is magical to see mothers working together to get kids on the buses to get to the Community Center, preparing food for the children,

cleaning the Center, taking classes, learning and growing.

It is magical to be on a build day and see people of all ages and from both sides of the border come together to make the lives of their neighbors better.

It has been more than magical to see 20 families so far this year

walk through the doors of their new fully-furnished Build A Miracle homes knowing that there are another 19 homes on the schedule to be

finished by the end of the year.

There has been magic happening all year at the new Build a Miracle community, Villa Margarita, where families who don’t own their land have been able to, for the first time in their lives, have a place to call home.

They live right next to a school, so many have been able to start small businesses selling things right there.

The Dad’s Program continues to be one of the most magical programs we offer where about 80 fathers come together every Sunday morning and work on 8 to 10 homes for families who don’t own their land or for some reason would not qualify for a Build a Miracle home.

Just as beautiful as the lives that they are changing by fixing up the shacks,

is the love the fathers have for this program, for the other fathers in the group, and for the work they are doing.

The magic is still happening in the individual education cells that we

set up during Covid.

Even though children and families have returned to taking classes at the Community Center, we decided to spend the extra resources necessary to continue this program because the children get the benefit

of individual instruction at these homes in addition to the classes they take at the Community Center.

There is no end to the magic as our team of leaders and subleaders continue to find ways to care for all in their communities through things like:

The grandparent program

The home reading program

Adult programs and workshops offered at the Community Center help adults grow their skills and confidence.

It is magical that the BAM community wants to step up and help others, whether it be their neighbors or, as more recently, Haitian migrants who have come into Mexico.

The magic is starting to appear in the Business Building and small businesses programs which are the biggest and most labor-intensive projects we are working on right now.

We have a whole team engaged just on this endeavor - so that many people will be able to earn extra income to care for their families.

Last week we brought in the team of 20+ sub leaders to help the business team get more people from their communities participating and they are definitely up for the challenge!

We have the bakery up and running and making 600 to 800 pieces of bread a day and then taking it to the communities where people sell 50 to 100 pieces a couple days a week.

If they sell 100 pieces two days a week, they can earn $40 which is about a 40% increase in the weekly salary of the family so although that may not sound like a lot, it is really a big amount for them.

In the next several weeks, we are going to use the kitchen from the business building to launch a burrito program where we will make burritos in the Business Building which will be taken throughout the communities for people to sell.

Besides that, part of the business program helps people set up small businesses in their own homes.

Currently we are working with 35 families who have their own small businesses.

Here’s a video of our number one leader, Angelica emotionally talking about BAM and telling what the business program means to her and her community.

We could write volumes showing you all the magic that happens every day, but probably the most magical thing of all, is the love and support from all of you that keeps coming and keeps changing the lives of hundreds upon hundreds of people.

Thank you for believing in Build a Miracle, thank you for loving your neighbors, and thank you for giving them this magic in their lives.

God bless you always
