Letter from the President Happy Women's History Month! It’s wonderful to celebrate this month and remember all the women who have been trailblazers. When I was a little girl, I use to come home after school and after I did my homework, my grandmother would turn on the news. There was a black woman who anchored the evening news named Beverly Payne. She was the first African American woman to anchor the evening news in Metro Detroit. I use to sit in front of the TV mesmerized by her - knowing she was different because she looked like me. Being able to see yourself positively represented in all areas helps you believe that there are possibilities for you. At the S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls, our mission is to help give girls the tools they need to succeed. Partner Spotlight: Black Girls Film Camp Learn More

The S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls is honored to support Black Girls Film Camp. This incredible organization creates a space for Black girls to learn, collaborate, embrace their most authentic selves, construct their own narratives centering on Black girlhood, and share their stories through film. In the past two years, they have produced 20 short films written and directed by adolescent Black girls, participated in over 15 national screenings in the US, built a national community of nearly 100 Black women and girl filmmakers, and received over 50,000 views of their films and Black girl stories through screenings and streaming platforms. Their 2023 Film Camp begins on March 11th, and we cannot wait to see the amazing films the girls create this year!
