Happy October! As much as I love the summer months, this Michigan born-and-bred girl gets excited this time of year, because there is so much to celebrate!
First, October reminds me of the grade school field trips that we used to take up north to see the fall foliage. The trees are so beautiful - resplendent in their red, yellow and orange leaves.
Second, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. At the S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls, one of our pillars is HEALTH. We want to remind all women to get regular breast exams. Breast cancer, when caught early, is very curable. Empowerment means taking charge of your health by making an appointment with your doctor today to talk about your breast health.
October is also a special month because it means International Day of the Girl! On October 11th, girls around the world band together to raise their voices for social change to benefit gender equality. In this month’s newsletter, you will find out more about the many girls and young women who are breaking barriers.
At the S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls, our mission is all about gender equality. Nonprofits that are led by women and especially those that support girls of color, receive a small percentage of available funding for nonprofits. We are trying to change that.
When you give to the S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls, you become part of a network of giving that brings attention and resources to organizations like our newest grantee, STEM from Dance, that help underserved and underrepresented girls and young women.
I hope you enjoy this month’s newsletter. Happy reading!
