Friday Night Candlelight Hikes
January 24, 2020
5:00 - 8:00 PM

Set your own pace on a self-guided trail hike (or snowshoe or cross-country ski) and follow the candle lit path to a camp fire and hot cocoa.

Charlevoix Recreation is currently seeking volunteers to help with a number of responsibilities surrounding the hikes. Volunteer positions include Set-Up, Tear Down, Putting out Candles, Trail Head Greeters and Fire Pit Greeters. “If you have an interest in getting some exercise, meeting up with old friends or making new ones this winter, consider volunteering at one or more of our hikes. Those that worked and volunteered last year had a really good time. It really is nice to see so many people in our community out on the trails, especially in the winter!”, said Kent Knorr, Recreation Director

For more about the Candlelight Hikes, call the Recreation Department at 231-547-3253.

Also at Mt. McSauba

Sponsor Feature
As an integral part of the Charlevoix community, we strive to be part of all that is Charlevoix. We are constantly asking people what is important to them so we can provide the best possible library service. Being part of the downtown events keeps us involved in the community and in touch with our patrons”, says Linda Adams, Director of the Charlevoix Public Library.
The Charlevoix Public Library not only performs the basic functions of a library in an outstanding fashion, but they go above and beyond for the community, including sponsoring and partnering on several Main Street events and initiatives. From sponsoring the children’s concert during Live on the Lake Summer Concert Series to hosting annual business training seminars in partnership with area organizations, the Library touches a variety of Main Street projects. In 2018, the Library helped launch the Remote Office/Home Office Collaborative meetings, eventually leading to the creation of The Vault Coworking Space by Charlevoix Main Street, DDA. The Library also partners with the Charlevoix Historical Society and the Charlevoix Circle of Arts to create the Cultural Corridor, creating another downtown attraction and lending collaborative services to several downtown events.
It is clear to see with their involvement and initiative that the Charlevoix Public Library is an integral part to Main Street’s success. “As part of the DDA, the library is ‘the living room of the community’. We are a place for education and social interaction.” says Adams. “This brings more people to Charlevoix to interact, shop and dine.” We extend a big ‘THANK YOU’ to the Charlevoix Public Library for their continued sponsorships and support!

Service Highlight
Lindsey Dotson has been such a gift to Charlevoix. Her love and enthusiasm for the area is contagious. Her love of historical things has helped to preserve and enhance our community.

Lindsey was born in Lansing and grew up in metro Detroit where she also graduated high school. After high school she attended Grand Valley where she was a pre-med student. She then did grad school at Eastern Michigan University where she received her Masters in Historic Preservation.

It was there that she met Trevor Dotson. After grad school she worked as Director of Main Street for the City of Wayne. She and Trevor married three years ago and shortly after that moved to Charlevoix where she took her current position as Executive Director of Charlevoix Main Street/Downtown Development Authority Program.

Lindsey has ties to Charlevoix going back several generations on her mother's side of the family. Her grandfather was born and raised here, and his grandfather was of 6 O'Brien brothers who were considered "pioneer settlers" of Charlevoix County back in the mid to late 1800's.

Just a side note, she recently received the highest credential achievable through Main Street, the Main Street America Revitalization Professional. Congratulations Lindsey!

Trevor is Manager of Operations at the Charlevoix Historical Society. As you can see, they both have a love of history and preservation. A match made in heaven.
Lindsey and Trevor have a darling little boy named Calvin who is currently two years old.
In the very limited amount of free time Lindsey has, she serves on the board of the Historical Society as the buildings and ground chairman. She also volunteers for the Michigan Historical and Preservation Network. You can also find her volunteering for other special events around Charlevoix.

When asked what her hobbies are, she said she loves the outdoors. She enjoys camping, hiking and snowshoeing. She also added that she especially enjoys bluegrass concerts. She loves living in Charlevoix because of it's outdoor recreation, access to locally grown healthy foods, it's small town charm and the water that surrounds us.

Thank you, Lindsey for all you do for Charlevoix!
