Business Spotlight
Brian's Ice Cream Experience
Brian's Ice Cream Experience  opened in 2017 in a cute little shop back in The Mercado/Van Pelt Alley (217 Bridge Street Unit C). This bright and happy space is full of flavor, good vibes, and fun. What's better is that natural, locally sourced ingredients are used so you feel slightly less guilty about "cheating" on your diet.
We (Charlevoix Main Street - CMS) recently sat down with Brian and Emily Freund for a Q&A.

Service Highlight
Laura Simmonds is a part of the Economic Vitality Committee. She's married to Caleb (who works for Frontier Communications) and they have an 11 year old son named Skylar who is going into the sixth grade. Laura moved to Charlevoix when she was 13 years old and started her first year of High School here, which she said was rough. Her parents had vacationed in Charlevoix prior to them moving here.

After high school she attended North Central Michigan College and got degrees in Psychology and Nursing. She worked as a nurse at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital for 10 years and then worked at Charlevoix Hospital for 10 years. After that she worked for Charlevoix High School teaching a Health Occupations class. She ended up going back to school for double masters degrees in Business and Nursing and shortly thereafter started working for Catasys as a Care Coach in telephonic care. She's now managing the performance of the program.

Now that she's not immersed in her studies, she loves to mountain bike, go to the beach and just be in the outdoors. Laura has a real love for Charlevoix and it's economic vitality and is a real asset to the team.

Facade Grants
Applications are due August 1st!

The Facade Incentive Program, which helped to improve multiple downtown buildings by providing funding last year, is developed by the Design Committee of Charlevoix Main Street.

The grant program was created to encourage private investment in historic facades by providing financial incentives. Historically sensitive rehabilitation and dramatic improvement of facades in downtown Charlevoix will encourage good design that will serve as quality examples to preserve the architectural character that is distinctive to Charlevoix. By improving the appearance of the building facades, the Program helps to improve the economic vitality of the downtown.
