Greetings Main Street Friends!

Leadville is fortunate to be an accredited Main Street Program through our Main Street America partners. The cumulative success of the Main Street Approach® and Main Street America programs on the local level has earned Main Street the reputation as one of the most powerful economic revitalization tools in the nation.

Main Street = Economic Impact

The National Main Street Center conducts research to document this by annually collecting statistical information on the preservation, revitalization, and economic activities in local Main Street programs throughout the country.

Check out the reinvestment statistics here.

Over the past few weeks, we have been reviewing Main Street America's 4-point approach - if you missed any of these newsletters, check them out here.

Colorado Main Street Open For Business (MSOB) Grant

The Main Street Open for Business Façade and Energy Grant Program, enabled by SB 21-252, awards money to eligible entities (municipalities, counties, and councils of government), to provide incentive programs for local business owners to improve the energy efficiency and/or aesthetics of commercial buildings within traditional downtowns.

The program is designed to:

  • increase property values and visual appeal
  • increase sales and revenues in rehabilitated buildings
  • reduce energy consumption and lower utility bills
  • increase job retention/creation

Due to the timing and urgency of getting funds awarded, it is the intent of this program for applicants to submit multiple projects in their application and create a catalytic ripple effect of investment in downtown districts.

Funding

  • Individual projects are estimated to average between $10,000 and $150,000. Awards or partial awards of submitted projects will be made based on timing of the projects, along with other selection criteria in the application. Projects that can commence quickly will be given higher priority.
  • The local government is responsible for a 20% match of the total requested grant to DOLA. Match can be from the awarded entity, business owner, or combination of both.
  • Expenses incurred before a project is awarded by DOLA are NOT eligible for reimbursement.
  • Final grant approval will be made by the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) based on eligibility entities’ application as a whole, including individual projects' likelihood of increasing sales and/or decreasing energy costs, readiness, and impact to overall downtown aesthetics and economic development.
  • All work must be completed and paid for by June 30, 2022.

Harrison Avenue to get a new Parklet!

VC.jpg

Last week, we announced that in early 2022, Harrison Avenue will FINALLY get a new public restroom and parklet at the Visitor's Center thanks to our partners at CDOT via the Main Street Revitalization Grant Opportunity #2.

The Leadville Main Street parklet-restroom project will be a great addition to our visitor center in desperate need of better amenities to serve those coming through needing a place to rest, get information, and plan their stay in Leadville. Additionally, this will be another service point for locals and business owners who need reliable bathroom facilities for public use. This project is being implemented in a stakeholder collaboration of the Leadville Main Street Program, Leadville Lake County Economic Development Corporation, Lake County, City of Leadville, Lake County Tourism Panel, Leadville Lake County Chamber of Commerce, Lake County Civic Center Foundation, Leadville Street Department, Parkville Water, and Leadville volunteers.

Stay tuned as the project progresses...

Colorado Main Street - Year in Review

The 21 Colorado Main Street communities have accomplished quite a lot in the past year. It was an uncertain time that required a harsh look at budgets, quick-thinking solutions, and working long hours to apply for grants and meet deadlines. This edition of The Main Thing is both a reflection on all our managers have accomplished and a celebration of the resurgence we’ve experienced across our state. Here’s to a great year of growth!
