Main Street Station Invites Richmond Families to Inaugural Trunk-or-Treat

Free community event brings Halloween fun and pedestrian safety awareness to Main Street Station.

Richmond, VA —The Richmond Department of Transportation (RDOT) is inviting families to celebrate Halloween at the free inaugural Trunk-or-Treat at Main Street Station on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The free community event will take place at Main Street Station’s North Plaza and West Parking Lot and feature decorated vehicles from city departments and local community organizations distributing candy and resources, along with activities for children and families of all ages. Families can get an up-close look at how city Department of Public Works (DPW) vehicles operate through DPW’s interactive Touch–a-Truck activation and visit RDOT’s Traffic Garden, an interactive educational resource designed to teach children safe walking practices and pedestrian safety tips. The event will also feature music, food trucks, treats and more.

The event comes as the City continues its work to advance Richmond’s Vision Zero commitment to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries. Pedestrian safety is a shared responsibility, particularly during the fall and winter months when fewer daylight hours can make people walking more difficult to see.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down, stay alert and expect more people walking in neighborhoods on Halloween. People walking should use sidewalks and designated crossings where available and make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
