Finding Maine DOT Contracts

Sam Updike, DBE Supportive Services Specialist

It can take some time to gather and prepare the required documents to become DBE certified, so many businesses are excited to move on to the next step and start thinking about contract procurement. There are several useful tools for finding new MDOT contacts that your business can take advantage of.

The first step towards finding contract opportunities with MaineDOT is to visit their website (https://www.maine.gov/mdot/). Find the “doing business” tab and look under the “business opportunities” section. Here they have broken up their information into contractor and consultant. Under the consultant section, there are tabs for RFI, RFQ, and RFP where you can view upcoming and current bids. There is also a section on prequalification where it breaks down the steps to apply. Consultants must be prequalified to work on a majority of MDOT contracts, so it is vital that consultants go through this application process.

The current application period is open through July 29th.

In the contractor section, the landing page has their currently advertised projects. This has current and recently opened bids, with their deadline, location, and description. There is an option to get bid opportunities by email, so businesses don’t have to go out of their way to find potential contracts. Other useful tabs can give you information about previous contract awards and the prequalification process for contractors.

DBE Supportive Services can also create a bid-match profile for your business. This will collect bid-opportunities that match the description of your business and send them directly to your email. Bid-match will obtain new bids from MaineDOT, the federal government, other Maine departments, and even some municipalities. If you are interested in bid-match or have any questions about obtaining MaineDOT contracts, please reach out to the DBESS Specialist at supdike@emdc.org.
