Getting into Image Licensing or Stock (whether stills or motion) in an ever-changing landscape is a daunting task, but expanding your visual horizon with stock in mind, is a rewarding purpose-filled aspect of any creative’s business model that should not be overlooked.

 

Mauricio Handler was a stills photographer and expedition leader for over 25 years. In 2012 he launched Aquaterrafilms where he is its Director of Photography, Cinematographer and Producer.

 

During this one hour talk, Natural History & Underwater Cinematographer Mauricio Handler, will take us through his creative and business stock library journey, first represented as a stills photographer by The National Geographic Image Collection and Getty Images and later as a cinematographer by Nature Footage.All the while marketing his work directly to clients and producers.

 

As an underwater cinematographer, he has worked and contributed extensively from his stock library to films, documentaries and specials around the world.

 

His latest contribution aired on CNN during the last two months in the six episode Original Series, Patagonia: Life on the Edge of the World. His mini Series Ocean Secrets and World of Oceans, a relied extensively on his motion library for their creation, a library created over the past 10 years traveling the world's oceans.

Mauricio Handler is a natural history documentary Producer, Director of Photography, and Cinematographer. Since the launch of his Maine-based production company Aquaterrafilms in 2012, Mauricio has created hard-to-get sequences for the top players in today’s broadcast world including Wildspace, ZDF/ARTE, Netflix, BBC, and BBC Science, Rolex, National Geographic, Curiosity Stream, ESPN, and CNN.


Although an underwater specialist, he has worked extensively on land using the latest tech probe to super long lenses. He incorporates drones, sliders, and lights, as well as underwater scooters and rebreathers to help him bring a cinematic look and feel to all of his productions.


Over the past five years, Mauricio has Executive Produced and Produced his own films including the mini-series, World of Oceans and Ocean Secrets as well as The Humboldt Current (Curiosity Stream / Off the Fence).


His latest work as underwater DP and self-shooter recently aired on the CNN Original Series, Patagonia: Life on the Edge of the World, CNN’s first commission into the natural history genre, produced by the company, Plimsol.


As an underwater cinematographer, he has worked and contributed extensively from his stock library to films, documentaries and specials around the world. His latest contribution aired on CNN during the last two months in the six episode Original Series, Patagonia: Life on the Edge of the World. His mini Series Ocean Secrets and World of Oceans, relied extensively on his motion library for their creation, a library created over the past 10 years traveling the world's oceans.  He is a long-time Red Camera adopter who pushes his Red 6k Dragons into the extreme environments above and below the water around the world. Mauricio first started teaching this workshop at Maine Media in 2014. He lives in Maine with his wife and business partner Julia and their dog Tristan.
