The Maine Department of Labor has announced a 45-cent increase to the state minimum wage starting January 1, 2026.
Standard Minimum Wage:
The minimum wage will rise from $14.65 per hour to $15.10 per hour.
Tip Wage:
The tip wage for service employees will increase to $7.55 per hour. Employers must ensure that service employees receive at least $15.10 per hour when wages and tips are combined.
Salary Threshold for Overtime Exemption:
The new minimum salary threshold for exempt salaried workers will be $45,300.32 per year ($871.16 per week).
The Maine Department of Labor adjusts the minimum wage annually based on the Northeast Consumer Price Index. Between August 2024 and August 2025, the index increased by 3.1 percent.
Note: Portland and Rockland have local minimum wages set above the state level. Their updated rates will be released at a later date.
