MaineShare Mid Year Report July '19

Reflecting on Impact and Meaningful Change
|
As MaineShare moves through the first half of each year, headquarters spends most of the first three months receiving pledge results, acknowledging donations, and planning for the next event or appeal. During the next three months, April through June, we work to reach individuals outside of the workplace in an effort to
expand awareness about the tremendous impact that the organizations we represent have in Maine! This May, we connected with over 30,0000 Mainers!
In early June of each year, we distribute both workplace and direct contributions to member organizations, dive into a little professional development, and then immediately begin ramping up our Fall Appeal. And so, the wheel continues to turn.
This annual cycle - where staff are al
ways peddling -
is often spinning so fast that we need to stop, reflect on, and acknowledge the real impact that MaineShare donors have. Early July gives us that time.
MaineShare donors
choose to support the environment,
choose to support economic opportunity,
choose to support education, diversity and the arts,
choose to support safety and health, and
choose to support social justice in Maine!
It also takes until about June for us to realize the depth of your generosity! As we round out the first half of this year, we want you to know that your dollars continue to have real impact.
The total of gifts and pledges made in 2018 to MaineShare organizations was up 8 percent from the previous year!
As we turn our focus toward the fall, we know we can rely on the support of Maine's public organizations (federal, state, municipal), private businesses, and nonprofits to join us in this work. Our collective effort to support giving to Maine causes is a reflection of how committed to social responsibility we all are, year round. We recognize that our reach to those of you giving to the Fall Appeal is not possible without our year round workplace campaign coordinators and the commitment of your organization's leaders.
You understand that your contribution, no matter the size, results in meaningful change. Day to day, month to month, and year to year we hope for and can often see sustainable change for Maine.
Your help has impact and your giving has impact - as an economic opportunity, a cleaner bay, a more protected species, a protected natural area, an accessible pathway, a safe work environment, better food, a healthy family, cleaner air, a rainbow of diversity, and a more just world. The people, environment and animals of Maine deserve a sustainable future and your commitment to these causes makes all the difference.
MaineShare's 30th year of giving is just around the corner. In January of 2020 we will have raised and distributed over $5.5 Million - 10 times what we distributed in our 10th year.
Together, we are going to continue to have impact!

Today through September 15th!
Summer is in full swing. On these warm days, we all want to be outside, so MaineShare is offering you a great reason! Get outside with your friends and give back as you help MaineShare continue its year-round work- advocating for, promoting, and supporting its nonprofit members!
This challenge is the spin off of the MaineShare Hike and Bike and a few of our long time supporters continue to take the challenge! We hope you will join them!
This year, MaineShare's Board is also taking on the challenge and they are busy making plans to have a bit of fun enjoying the Maine summer with friends,
coworkers and family. Our board Chair, Tracy Harkins our Board Chair, will be hiking with her family. Cate Cronin will be exploring new trails, hills, harbors and coves and invites "MaineSharers" to join her for a walk, hike, paddle or row. Additional board members are making plans now as they consider hosting friends to play yard games, go for a run, or take them on in a volleyball match! In August, Ana will host a kayak scavenger hunt on Long Pond in Mount Vernon followed by a picnic!
Everyone is welcome to join the campaign. For many years, one of our long time member organizations, Resources for Organizational Change - lead by Larry and Sass - has hosted their own annual Hike and Bike and will do so again this year.
It doesn't matter what you do! Walk, Wheel, Ride, Spin, Trek, Hike, Swim, Surf, Toss, Paddle, Sail, Farm, or Garden! As long as you think
your adventure is something that others might join you in!
We are challenging each fundraiser or team to raise $250-500 as we set
our mark to raise a total of $5,000. This is absolutely possible with your help!
Once you join, and your team is off adventuring, let us know!
You might even end your adventure with a campfire, grill, brewery visit or picnic to thank everyone. At the end of your adventure, post a few pictures and tag
#maineshare
and
#go4maine
to inspire the rest of us!
Join any time, from now until to Sept 15th at
#go4maine
And yes, feel free to help in "analog". Images and contributions can be sent directly to MaineShare at P.O. Box 2095, Augusta, ME 04338.
Take a look! A few other fundraisers are already live!
Have Fun, Celebrate the Maine Outdoors, and give back!

Claude Rwaganje, Executive Director of Prosperity ME, the ProsperityME staff, and volunteers from the
Maine Immigrants' Rights Coalition
and several other worthy organizations have been working almost non-stop in support of Portland's recently-arrived asylum seekers.
They encourage you to contribute to the work being done by these organizations. As part of their partnership with MIRC, they are
happy to split or pass on a donation to MIRC though their own donation portal at your request.
ProsperityME is also collecting to
fund their housing support program, Supporting Immigrant Tenants, (SIT). It is possible that many of the families currently staying at the expo will be eligible for this program soon.
In addition, they also ask that you please consider donating to another immigrant-serving organization conducting ongoing work.
The recent asylum seekers will have a multitude of social service needs over the next several months and they are doing everything they can to ensure we can support them though the transition.
