MARCH NEWSLETTER 2026
Mainely OEI
| |
As we welcome the month of March, we’re reminded that new beginnings are all around us — and that spring is in sight. The days are growing longer, the air feels a little lighter, and there’s a renewed sense of energy and possibility as we move toward brighter seasons ahead.
At OEI, this time of year is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the impact we’ve made together while looking forward to what’s to come. From acts of kindness in our communities to the everyday moments of connection and care, each of you continues to make a meaningful difference.
As we step into March, we hope this month brings fresh motivation, moments of joy, and continued inspiration as we grow, support one another, and move forward together.

RISING STARS THERAPEUTIC FARM
Spring is right around the corner at the farm, and with it comes a renewed sense of energy, growth, and excitement for the season ahead! As the days grow longer and we begin to “spring forward,” preparations are underway to care for our animals, refresh the grounds, and get ready for all the wonderful activities warmer weather brings.
None of this would be possible without our amazing volunteers, whose time, dedication, and compassion help keep the farm running and thriving. From lending a helping hand with daily care to supporting visits and special projects, our volunteers truly make a difference every day.
We’re so grateful for our farm community and can’t wait to share another beautiful season of learning, connection, and growth together!

STARFISH GREENHOUSE & FARM STAND | What is the 70/30 rule in gardening?
The 70/30 planting rule is a super handy (and low-stress) gardening guideline. It usually means planting:
🌿 70% reliable, structural plants — your tried-and-true performers or native plants that keep your garden looking great all season
🌸 30% fun, experimental, or seasonal plants — for pops of color, variety, and a little creativity
It keeps things beautiful while minimizing the “why did I plant that” moments 😂
Another popular take — often shared by Doug Tallamy — encourages using 70% native plants to support pollinators and wildlife, with 30% non-invasive non-natives for balance and visual flair.
Basically: beauty, biodiversity, and fewer garden regrets.
Spring can’t come fast enough 🌷

🌟 Star of the Month – March: Marilyn Rogers
This month, we are proud to recognize Marilyn Rogers as OEI’s Star of the Month! Marilyn recently celebrated her service anniversary and has been a valued, loyal member of the OEI team since November 5, 2015.
Throughout her years with OEI, Marilyn’s dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment have made a lasting impact on both her coworkers and the individuals she supports. Her kindness, reliability, and positive spirit truly reflect the heart of our organization.
As Marilyn prepares for her upcoming retirement, we want to take this opportunity to thank her for the many years of service and care she has given to OEI. While she will certainly be missed, we are so excited for her as she begins this next chapter — one that is well earned and well deserved.
Thank you, Marilyn, for everything you’ve contributed to OEI. Your legacy will always be a part of our team!

Last month, OEI came together for our kindness activity, Feed It Forward, and the impact was truly incredible.
At OEI, we believe giving isn’t just about making a donation — it’s about making a difference. Throughout the entire month, our team collected non-perishable food items to help support families in need within our communities, all with one goal in mind: spread love, not hunger.
From canned goods to pasta, rice, cereal, and more, every donation helped make a meaningful difference for those who need it most.
We are so proud of everyone who participated and showed what compassion in action looks like. Together, we proved that small acts of kindness can create a big impact.
Thank you for helping make February a month of giving, love, and community support. ❤️
